How should The University of Akron's campus look, feel and be used in the years ahead? Tell us!

We're conducting research for the next version of the master design plan for campus. A company named Sasaki Associates is helping us with this project, and it designed the interactive survey we'd like you to complete.

Take the survey now. It will take just a few minutes, and the results will help us create a campus that better meets your needs and the needs of those who follow in your steps.

The Zips Celebrate Homecoming This Weekend Oct. 8
11:00 am - 7:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
We regret to inform you that all of your previous plans this weekend will fall by the wayside because the Zips will present you with an amazing lineup of events to wrap up Homecoming week.
The volleyball team kicks the weekend off on Friday night when they face off against Ohio at 7:00 p.m at Rhodes arena. Volleyball is worth 10 ROO-Wards points.
On Saturday you have a chance to catch the football, volleyball and men’s soccer team who are all at home. The football team battles FIU at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field at 2:00 p.m. The first 500 students will receive a voucher at the football game for a t-shirt, which they can pick up at the men's soccer game that evening. This is worth 10 ROO-Wards points.
At 5:00 p.m. the volleyball team takes on Kent State as part of the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge. There will be free hot dogs and Akron volleyball t-shirts for the first 100 students in attendance. A post-game autograph session will also take place in the lobby. This is worth 10 ROO-Wards points.

The night wraps up at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field when the men’s soccer team welcomes MAC opponent Northern Illinois at 7:30 p.m. Students can redeem their t-shirt vouchers that they received at the football game for a “This is Akron” t-shirt. Those who are in the running to purchase an Akron soccer scarf must attend this game along with the game on October 15 against Hartwick to remain eligible. Men’s soccer is worth 5 ROO-Wards points.
|
At approximately 6:15 p.m. the AK-Rowdies will lead the “March to the Match,” as the students walk with the team from their locker room to the stadium. To encourage all students to participate in this game-day tradition, the student gate will not open at men’s soccer games this season until the March arrives at the stadium.
Admission is free for students to all home UA athletic events with a Zip Card.

If you have any questions, please contact the ROO-Wards office at roowards@uakron.edu or 330-972-8318.

Jaqueline Garcia Salamanca- The Migrant Journey: Mexican Migrant Rights. Oct. 17
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
A former undocumented immigrant in the United States, Jaqueline García Salamanca is an advocate and organizer working in Veracruz, Mexico with the Jesuit Migrant Service. She has worked tirelessly in migrant-sending communities while also providing humanitarian support for migrants who are taking the dangerous journey northward.

Most recently, she led 120 local volunteers through an intensive training program on how to create strong migrant support committees along a significant stretch of "La Bestia," the deadly train that thousands of Central American migrants ride northward each year in search of jobs and better lives for their families.

Because Veracruz has become an important sending region for migrants, Jaqueline's efforts have also strived to strengthen the communities left behind by organizing empowerment and support programs for women and families of migrants.

Roo Talk Paranormal Reality Tour

Date: Wednesday, October 19

Time: 7:30pm

Location: EJ Thomas Stage Door

As early as he can remember, world-renowned Ghost Hunter Chris Fleming was prone to experiencing extraordinary encounters in the form of ghosts and unexplained phenomena. Chris feels he is very “sensitive” to these things and has decided to use that word to describe his insight into energy fields and human or non-human presences we cannot see with our own eyes.

Chris brings his 2011 Paranormal Reality Tour to UA, complete with ghosts, photos, videos, and audio evidence to prove it.

This FREE Event is Sponsored by RHC, RHPB, and EJ Thomas Hall

The Shoop Groop promotion now has an interesting Halloween twist. Our campus population will be showered with “Boo at the Roo” tickets as we make it rain all October. Boo at the Roo starts popping at 9:09 on October 28th; complete with contests, giveaways, food, cash bar, dancing, and much more. To ease your quest for success, Anthony Schupp will wear a bunch of different Halloween costumes around campus. Just look for something out of the ordinary and it will probably be him (but no guarantees). Remember the rules of the promotion? Read the paper, be the first to find Anthony Schupp, pass the quiz, and make a guest appearance to Boo at the Roo. Read the Buchtelite. It’s stoopidly easy.

Do you have a meal plan that leaves you with too many meal swipes to use up at the end of the week? Are you unsure of what to get, but don't want to waste you hard earned college funds? Well if so, here is the solution!!!

Serving with Swipes is a non-profit student organization in which you can use your unused meal swipes to donate food to the nearby food pantry. This is a great way to help those who are less fortunate while also learning not to be wasteful.

Just use your extra meal swipes at the Zees stores to purchase nonperishable, canned, or boxed foods. Drop them in the boxes located in the Zees stores at Exchange, Rob's Cafe, Quaker Square, or the Student Union.

Serving with Swipes-A great way to give back to the community and help those who are poor.
