Away from campus house checks will be offered for the first time during Thanksgiving break, building on the successful winter break program from last year.  If you or someone you know lives in the neighborhood south or east of campus and your house will be vacant for an extended period, you can request free periodic check by University or Akron Police officers.  Check the map to see if you live in the service area and register your home.

Registration information will be encrypted and shared with the officers assigned to the program.  Officers will conduct periodic checks of your residence and contact you or your landlord if they discover anything suspicious.

Officers will not be able to check on individual apartments in a large complex.

The form must be completed prior to Wednesday, Nov. 23.

UA offers counseling services for students
spacer image
spacer image

spacer image
Students visit the professional staff in the on-campus Counseling Center for a variety of reasons:

  • coping with a personal crisis;
  • deciding on a major and a career direction or in improving study skills or overcoming learning problems;
  • dealing with personal issues — self-esteem, sexuality, ethnic identity, alcohol/drugs; and
  • family conflicts or relationship issues.

Sometimes choices appear so limited that every possible outcome feels like more discomfort and unhappiness. An objective professional can often help you during these times. The Counseling Center provides a quiet place where you can discuss your concerns in private with an experienced professional.

There is no charge to eligible students except for fees associated with LD testing and nominal fees for career and psychological tests.

The Counseling Center is located in Simmons Hall (Rooms 306 and 304), near the center of campus. Make an appointment by calling 330-972-7082 or 330-972-7083 or by stopping in the center. Learn more.

Ever feel like you got meal swipes, but NO need for junk food? Ever wonder how you as a poor college student can help those who aren't as well off as you? Well, if so, I got just the thing!

Join in the cause to brighten someone's day by doing what you normally do every week. Use some of those EXTRA meal swipes (worth $5 at the Zees stores) to collect some food for the poor. Just BUY, BAG, and DROP any NON-PERISHABLE food items in the boxes in the Zees stores. They are collected and taken to the nearest food pantry.

Serving with Swipes: a great way to help those in need!
