Calling all freshmen and seniors for NSSE
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image

Think about your time at UA. What experiences have you enjoyed most? Learned from the most? What improvements should we make?

Your viewpoint will help us improve the undergraduate experience. That’s why you should make your voice heard by taking the National Survey of Student Engagement.

If you are a freshman or senior, you have already received an individual link to the online survey. It should take 10 to 20 minutes to complete. You have until the end of the semester to respond, but why not complete the survey right now.

NSSE surveys students at hundreds of four-year colleges and universities about their participation in programs and activities that help them learn and grow. The results provide an estimate of how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college. Last year, UA was one of 761 colleges and universities to take part in the survey.

Undergraduate students: Help UA understand your use of technology
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University of Akron is participating in a short survey (approximately 15 minutes) about your experiences with and attitudes toward technology and your academic experiences.

The survey was developed by Educause, a non-profit organization that seeks to advance higher education through the intelligent use of information.

Participation is voluntary and all responses are anonymous. Your responses will help UA and other universities better understand how to use technology more effectively to benefit students.

The survey is available from March 16 through April 10 at 5:00 p.m. Take the survey now.

Research for Lunch: Dr. Juay Seng Tan April 2

spacer image
spacer image
Dr. Juay Seng Tan, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, will be presenting his research at noon on Monday, April 2, 2012 in the Student Union Room 335. The title of the research is, “Spine Biomechanics Research – Against Gathering Storms.”

Abstract
Education. Research. International competitiveness. Earth is flatter. Our population is getting older. Why spine biomechanics research remains important in future. This presentation will discuss several spine biomechanics research studies previously conducted at UA. In vitro biomechanical flexibility tests on cadaveric specimens were carried out to evaluate novel surgical techniques or devices on spinal kinematics. These clinically relevant studies were conceived and conducted in collaboration with spinal surgeons. Translational research increases surgical success and reduces costs. Prepare for creeping gathering storms. Value driven engineering. Be creative. Transformative. Innovative.

Bring your lunch and meet Dr. Tan, learn about his research endeavors and show support for one of your colleagues. RSVP Mary Dingler, Office of Research Services and Sponsored Programs, or by phone at x7774.
