In 2007 Gabriel returned to South Sudan after 20 years to search for his family. Upon his return, Gabriel founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering educational opportunities and health services for the people in South Sudan called HOPE (Helping Offer Primary Education) for Sudan. The charity also puts a special emphasis on educating girls and empowering women "one village at a time".
