University will be site of mock disaster drill on May 9

Don't be alarmed should you see emergency vehicles, SWAT teams and bomb squads in action across campus between 2 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9.

Our campus will be hosting a county-wide emergency-response exercise. Three separate mock incidents will occur around 2 p.m., and safety personnel from the University, city, county, state and FBI will respond.

The activity will be centered on the College of Arts and Sciences building, Knight Chemical and InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.

If you work in or near those buildings, you may be instructed to leave the building for a short period or be advised to remain in place, also for a short period, depending on the nature of the incident. All on campus may hear announcements over the indoor and outdoor warning systems. The announcements will note that this is an exercise.

Since 2007, the University has reworked its emergency plan and increased its coordination with city, county and state safety forces. Several small exercises have been held on campus over the years; this will be our first large-scale event.

If you have questions or concerns, contact Mark Beers, the University's emergency management coordinator, at 330-972-2633 or beers1@uakron.edu.

Dear all,

The University of Akron Consulting Club is now started !!
The purpose of the University of Akron Consulting Club is to bring management consulting skills to the hands of students with the goals of promoting education, business acumen and industry exposure to students from different majors and different backgrounds

Based on this purpose, we have the following activities:

First, to help students raise their awareness of what is management consulting about and how a student can develop his/her consulting career in consulting industry. The consulting club will host regular introductory consulting workshops based on this purpose.

Second, to organize case study interviews for consulting job interview preparation. In order to get to this goal, the club will organize weekly or biweekly case study events; the club will distribute case study materials; the club will group the club members for case study practice and mock interviews; the club will supply interview tips to help members be better understand the consulting skills and capabilities.

Third, to maintain a close network connection with industry professionals. We will invite people for presentations with different topics. We can expose our club members more consulting job opportunities and summer internship opportunities from these firms locally or from the whole country.

Having the club recognized, we can make the club be familiar to all the students in the university and supply a platform for those students who are interested in consulting career or even who will need a group of people for job interview preparations.

If you are interested and want to become a member of the club, please search “consulting club” on www.orgsync.com and join in the club.
