First-ever Akron Art Prize announced
spacer image
spacer image

spacer image
Faculty staff and student artists are encouraged to enter the Downtown Akron Partnership's Akron Art Prize competition, sponsored by the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation. The public will choose the winners of the competition via text-to-vote technology. The first-place winner will receive $5,000, and the top five runners-up will each receive $1,000.

The just-launched Akron Art Prize, modeled after similar public art competitions held across the country, is intended to encourage conversations and excitement about art and Akron's Downtown core. Submissions will be matched with downtown venues for public viewing and voting.

This competition is open to any artist age 18 and older. Those interested must submit a short application and provide a $10 entry fee by Friday, July 6. Entry artwork must be completed and delivered to the assigned venue by the last week of August.

To encourage UA participation, the Office of the Vice President for Student Engagement and Success, in collaboration with the uArts initiative, will pay the $10 entry fee for every faculty, staff and student artist. To have a payment processed, contact Susan Beke, assistant to the vice president for fiscal operations, at sbeke1@uakron.edu or ext. 7088.

Visit Akron Art Prize online to learn more about the competition and download an application.
