spacer image
The University of Akron Sociology Club would like to invite all students to the first of our film and discussion series on Tuesday, October 12, at 5:00 p.m. in the Student Union Theater. The meeting will begin with a brief discussion of the issues surrounding women who commit murder, and will be followed by the viewing of Monster (directed by Patty Jenkins), a Hollywood version of the Aileen Wuornos story. Wuornos is considered one of the first known female serial killers in America. The event is free and open to the public.

The Sociology Club is a registered student organization interested in a wide range of topics that affect our society, such as crime, poverty, and politics. Members explore such issues through videos, discussions, visits to other universities in the region to hear nationally and internationally renowned speakers, and through interactions with University of Akron faculty. Plus, the sociology club is a great way to make new friends, do exciting things, and, it looks great on a résumé. The club is open to all students, regardless of your major.

Ever wonder if the USA is in the Bible? What is RFID technology? Is the UN really a world governing body? What are the implications of the International Criminal Court? Is what the Bible says about the endtimes really true or just a hoax?

All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend each session where we will be viewing a series of videos with discussion following.

Sessions will be held each Monday at 5:30 p.m. and a repeat on Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. in the Student Union. Rooms may vary, so check with the information desk for room assignment. For more information, send an email to alphaomegapentecostals@yahoo.com or call (330) 920-1867.

Join the Student Judicial Affairs Process
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University Of Akron Office Of Student Judicial Affairs is offering a unique leadership opportunity for students. This semester, two different positions are available to graduate and undergraduate students: The Student Judicial Advocacy Board and Student Hearing Board Members. Each position offers a unique chance for students to become involved in the Judicial Affairs process.

The Student Judicial Advocacy Board is a new service for students this semester. It is the role of Student Judicial Advocates to serve as a guide for students who are involved in the Judicial Affairs process. Advocates will meet with the student and explain the conduct system. The purpose of the Student Judicial Advocate is not to advise the student as to the best course of action, but rather to serve as a resource to the student. A three hour training session must be attended in order to participate in this exciting new program.

Student Hearing Board Members continue to be an important part of the Judicial Affairs Process here on campus. The Board Members are directly involved in the Hearing Board’s decision making process, which differs from the role of Student Judicial Advocates. Student Hearing Board Members become involved only when the formal hearing board is convened. Board Members attend hearings, weigh the evidence and determine what/if disciplinary action is appropriate. Student Hearing Board Members will be required to attend a three hour training session in order to participate in the program.

To become involved in one of these programs, please stop by the Student Union Info Center and pick up an application. Applications and application materials are due by Friday, October 15, 2004.
