spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Ever feel like you got meal swipes, but NO need for junk food? Ever wonder how you as a poor college student can help those who aren't as well off as you? Well, if so, I got just the thing!

Join in the cause to brighten someone's day by doing what you normally do every week. Use some of those EXTRA meal swipes (worth $5 at the Zees stores) to collect some food for the poor. Just BUY, BAG, and DROP any NON-PERISHABLE food items in the boxes in the Zees stores. They are collected and taken to the nearest food pantry.

Serving with Swipes: a great way to help those in need!

Join us and learn more about our Flexible MBA. Students with any bachelor's degree are eligible to apply for admission. Students with science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medical backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

We offer an interdisciplinary concentration that allows you to take graduate credits outside of business to fulfill MBA requirements. Students admitted to any UA graduate programs can shorten the MBA by applying coursework from the current program.

Coordinated programs with Engineering and the BS/MD program allow students to reduce Gateway requirements in the MBA by taking specific undergraduate elective courses in business.

The CBA also offers programs in Accountancy, Taxation, Information Systems, Technological Innovation and joint programs with the School of Law.

Bloomberg Business week ranked our Flexible MBA #1 in northeast Ohio and #34 in the nation. U.S. News and World Report also rated our program as the top public Flexible MBA in northern Ohio.

Register to attend the session online at mba.uakron.edu and meet with our advising staff to learn more about admission requirements and how the Flexible MBA is Fit for your Future!

The event starts at 6pm on Sunday, Nov 11 and participants will be encouraged to stay through the night until the event conclusion at 6am on Monday, Nov 12. The program is FREE for all participants, however a $5 donation is encouraged, which will benefit a local Akron agency - Community Support Services. Participants are asked to pre-register at www.uakron.edu/hunger- a meal will be provided for all attendees and the evening will entail educational/reflection activities and speakers from four local agencies.

The University of Akron welcomes back Comedian Jen Kober!

Originally from Lake Charles, la - Jen Kober has bounded onto the national stage bringing crowds to their feet with her original blend of stand-up, story telling, and improvised rock-n-roll comedy. Her hard-hitting hour is phenomenally funny as Kober commands the stage and dares you not to laugh.

2009 had Jen appearing on Nesn’s comedy all stars, and Kober taped a stand up special for mtv’s logo network that is still airing now.

In 2011, Jen appeared on Happy Endings on ABC, and on season 8 of the hit HBO series curb your enthusiasm.

Jen played Lo’Quacious Jones in the new MTV movie Worst. Prom. Ever. And she also taped a co-starring role in an episode of NBS’s new hit sitcom up all night with Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph.

2012 will be another busy year as Kober begins an 88 city college tour, and prepares to tape a new one hour stand-up special for TV.

Today, you can see Jen in the American Pie Reunion movie.

The Society of Akron Graduate English Scholars have extended the academic submission deadline for the conference on "Bondage and Liberation" to November 16, 2012. Submissions for the interdisciplinary conference are open to both undergraduate AND graduate students at The University of Akron. This year's theme may be interpreted as rigid or as loosely as desired.

We are bound by laws, politics, finances, social status and other societal structures that are necessary for our communities to survive. We are also bound by our emotions, by our religious beliefs, and by our self-defined moral values—the kinds of bonds that engender participation or resistance in each of us.

What compels us to create bonds with one another? Are we creatures of habit, bound by fate and destiny, or are we meant to test our limits and break ourselves free from those bonds? If freedom is a right, in what ways are we constrained by economic, biological, environmental, cultural, and political forces, and when does liberation become a necessity?

Our conference aims to address these issues and many more by exploring varying degrees of bondage. Possible sub-themes may include but are not limited to:

    Addiction and Obsession
    Revolution and Resistance
    Economic Inequality and Instability
    Identity Politics
    Gender, Sex and Sexuality
    Subversion and Submission
    Imprisonment
    Debt and Liability
    Despair and Forgiveness
    Property and Possession
    Outlaws and Oddities
    Disease and Decay
    Adaptation
    Alternative/Dual(Duel) Identities
    Courtship and Social Theory
    Positions of Power
    Puppetry
    Reliance and Technology
    Crisis and Rehabilitation
    Supply and Demand
    Parasites and Viruses

    Academic Submissions:

We seek submissions from across all disciplines. Submit individual abstracts (no more than 400 words) directly to SAGES by November 16, 2012 via email (sagessubmission@gmail.com). Those abstracts selected will be organized into specific panels to be presented at the conference on February 27, 2013.

Creative Writing and Visual Media Presentation Submissions:

All Creative writing manuscripts need to be submitted in their entirety. Presentation proposals (no more than 400 words) and creative writing manuscripts are to be submitted directly to SAGES via email (sagessubmission@gmail.com) by November 16, 2012. If you are unsure whether or not your project would fit our conference, send inquiries to James Bigley (jcb26@zips.uakron.edu), Secretary of SAGES.
