In a first for UA, all three student responders for fall commencement ceremonies at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on Friday, Dec. 14, and Saturday, Dec. 15, are student-veterans. Chosen to speak on behalf of their classmates are:

Christian Turner, who will receive a B.A. in Organizational Communication, cum laude, Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.

Eric Downing, who will receive a B.S. Construction Engineering Technology, magna cum laude, Summit College, on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m.

Carmen Roscoe, who will receive a B.S. in Nursing, College of Health Professions, on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.

For the Fall 2012 Class, the University will confer 1,501 undergraduate and graduate degrees, including 44 doctoral degrees, 40 Juris Doctor degrees, 344 master's degrees, 925 bachelor's degrees and 201 associate degrees to members of the Fall 2012 Class.

Both Turner and Roscoe were on dual paths — serving in the United States Army while earning their degrees. Downing worked in the private sector, in addition to his years in the United States Marine Corps, before starting his college career at UA. GradFest, a celebration for the graduates, their families and friends at Thomas Hall, will be held on Dec. 14 at 8:30 p.m., and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Gradfest features music, refreshments and photo ops with Zippy, UA's loveable mascot.

SRWC and ONAT hours will change for winter break starting Friday, December 14, 2012 and continuing on through January 12, 2013. Spring Semester hours will start back on Sunday, January 13.

Hours are based on SRWS research of patron use. Please log into our website at http://www.uakron.edu/srws/general-information/break-hours.dot for details of our holiday schedule or stop by the SRWC for a flyer. Also this year, the SRWC will be open for limited hours December 27 – December 30 to help encourage the continuation/development of healthy habits.

Are you interested in getting paid for notes you already take? Sign up to be a notetaker for The Office of Accessibility! Notetakers are students enrolled in the same course as the student eligible to receive the notetaker services. Notetakers simply provide their notes to the student to whom they are assigned. The Office of Accessibility will provide you with the necessary materials for notetaking such as carbon copy paper, a copy card, or instructions for uploading notes. It is very easy!

Atomic Learning (AL), is the University’s online, software training vendor. You can access AL through My Akron (formerly ZipLine) via the Help Center link.

On Dec. 17, from 9:00 a.m. – noon, AL will upgrade its web site. The upgrade will result in the loss of any certificates of completion and any records of your work. It is recommended that you download any information you wish to keep prior to Monday, Dec. 17.

To do this, log into your account via the portal and go to “my reports”
1. Select the Detailed Activity Report
2. enter the Start date of your usage with Atomic Learning at University of Akron (01/01/2007)
3. Set End date to present day
4. Click Generate Report
5. Once it displays--click on the Export icon and save the downloaded file
You may wish to Run the Progress Series Report. It’s a little less bulky. You can then print to a hard copy or to a PDF
6. If Applicable, you may also select and print your Certificates of completion

A gift to the community from The University of Akron School of Music and E.J. Thomas Hall, TubaChristmas combines hundreds of tubas – many festively adorned with tinsel, garlands and lights – and sing alongs in a beautiful setting.
