How to report sexual harassment
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University urges every student and employee to review our Sexual Harassment Policy (3359-11-13) and to be aware of the many forms of harassment that can create an intimidating or offensive environment, and, further, to be aware of our shared responsibility to report such unacceptable behavior:
  1. Students with a complaint should contact the Office of Student Judicial Affairs at 330-972-6380 or the Dean of Students at 330-972-6048. Employees should contact their immediate supervisors, or if the supervisor is the alleged perpetrator or unavailable, the vice president or head of the administrative unit. Any individual with a complaint may also contact the Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action office directly at 330-972-7300.
  2. Any student, faculty or staff member who is contacted about or has knowledge of an incident or informal complaint of sexual harassment must report the incident/complaint to the appropriate University official or to the affirmative action officer as soon as possible at the number above.

Guidance for military service students who must miss class Jan. 14
Time: n/a
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University is a “Veteran Friendly” institution and recognizes its obligations to our students who serve in the military, including the National Guard. Although there is a University-level expectation that all students will attend their classes at the designated meeting times, syllabi should clearly outline specific attendance policies for each course.

For students who currently serve in the military and will miss classes for short-term military leave or for military-training exercises, we recommend that they contact their instructors as soon as they become aware so that arrangements can be made.

In the rare case that unresolved issues arise due to absences from a course because of service in the military, we recommend that the student first contact the chair of the department through which the course is offered. If the student is still unsatisfied with the result, he or she should speak with the dean of the college and, if necessary later, with the Office of Academic Affairs.

As always, the Military Services Center is open in Simmons Hall 120 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to assist. Students are also welcome to contact the center by telephone at 330-972-7838 or by e-mail at veterans@uakron.edu for assistance with any issues encountered here at UA.

The English Language Institute (ELI), UA's English program for international students, invites UA students, faculty, and staff to participate in its Conversation Partners Program. ELI students come from all over the world and bring with them a wide variety of educational, political, cultural, religious, and linguistic backgrounds. This program is a wonderful opportunity to learn about another country and culture AND to make an international student feel welcome here in Akron.

Sign-up for the Conversation Partners Program begins January 22 in the ELI Office in Olin Hall 302. The one-hour weekly meetings will run from March until May. Call (330) 972-7544 for more information.
