Spring 2013 Interim Grades Feb. 8
Time: n/a
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Beginning Friday, February 8 through the end of the sixth week on Friday, February 22, interim grades submitted by instructors will be available for viewing in My Akron for REGULAR session (15-week) classes. This feature will allow you to monitor your progress in your class(es).

Interim grades are viewable in the same manner as final grades via My Akron. Instructions on how to view interim grades can be found at http://www.uakron.edu/dotAsset/4cbfc96b-4dc1-4d8d-8ef2-7f6006043e58.

If the Interim Grades tab does not yet exist on your “View My Grades” page, that simply means that none of your instructors have entered an interim grade for you yet. Once one of your instructors enters an interim grade, the tab will be available for you to click on and you will be able to review the grade(s) entered. If your instructor has entered an interim grade, that grade will be displayed. If the field is blank, your instructor has not entered an interim grade. Interim grades can be updated by your instructor often. Continue to check your interim grades to monitor your progress. You are encouraged to meet with your academic advisor and instructors to discuss your interim grades.

Questions regarding the process for viewing interim grades may be directed to the Office of the University Registrar at registrar@uakron.edu.

Big Brain Theory, a team of six girls from North Canton Middle School led by Heidi Cressman, director of UA's Women in Engineering program, has designed an innovative shoe for senior citizens that fastens itself to a wearer's foot at the tap of a toe.

The team won the Research Award for its design of the shoe, known as the BBT Shoe, at the FIRST Lego League (FLL) competition held at UA in January. The young inventors have also filed a provisional patent and are in talks with Reebok regarding material selection and style.

Now, the team is competing with its BBT Shoe in the FLL Global Innovation Competition and it needs your vote in this worldwide competition. The top team will receive $20,000 to progress the winning innovation. Visit FLL Global Innovation online to vote for these young inventors. You can vote once a day until March 1.

"Swing to Bop" presented by Peter Rutkoff of Kenyon College Feb. 15
11:00 am - 12:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
In a very few years, between 1939 and 1945, American jazz changed its voice. The lush harmonic sound of big bands, designed for dancing, gave way almost overnight to a tight, innovative, and jarring jazz music that attacked and overwhelmed its listeners. African American jazz and Bebop, created in the small after-hours clubs of Harlem, emerged after WWII in New York. This presentation will include recorded examples of the musical styles under discussion. This is a presentation given by Peter Rutkoff, Professor and Chair of the Program in American Studies, Kenyon College.
Come enjoy this interesting take on music, an event part of UA's Black History Month.

Do you have a meal plan that leaves you with too many meal swipes to use up at the end of the week? Are you unsure of what to get, but don't want to waste you hard earned college funds? Well if so, here is the solution!!!

Serving with Swipes is a non-profit student organization in which you can use your unused meal swipes to donate food to the nearby food pantry. This is a great way to help those who are less fortunate while also learning not to be wasteful.

Just use your extra meal swipes at the Zees stores to purchase nonperishable, canned, or boxed foods. Drop them in the boxes located in the Zees stores at Exchange, Rob's Cafe, Quaker Square, or the Student Union.

Serving with Swipes-A great way to give back to the community and help those who are less fortunate.

After appearing on numerous television programs, and his testimony airing on MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN, Zach has written a book called “My Two Moms” and is now touring college campuses with a game-changing lecture called “What Makes a Family?” He shares a story that has never been told and offers a fresh bold perspective on an always contentious issue: gay marriage.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes April 26
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image

spacer image
Did you know that in America, every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted? Did you know that every 2 in 3 victims know their attacker?

Look around you, your classrooms, the rec, and all over campus. It is a fact that 1 in 6 women have been the victim of an attempted or completed sexual assault.

Help portest sexual assault by joining a team to participate in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, an organized walk to raise awareness and benefit our own local Medina and Summit County Rape Crisis Center.

The male walkers usually put on girls' heels to protest sexual assault, but there are many ways that you can participate in this event.

If interested in joining the team, participating, or donating please contact jkk23@zips.uakron.edu

This event is sponsored by the registered student organization, Circle K International.

Thank you so much!

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.

Questions about specific announcements should be made to the contact person/department/organization listed in the announcement.Your event will automatically be forwarded to the University's online calendar. The Zipmail Coordinator can be reached at x2837.
