DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH, ATHLETIC TRAINERS ACROSS AMERICA ARE BEING RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO HELPING PEOPLE PREVENT INJURIES AND STAY HEALTHY AND ACTIVE. ATHLETIC TRAINERS ARE HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS. THEY ARE HIGHLY EDUCATED AND DEDICATED TO THE JOB AT HAND. ATHLETIC TRAINERS CAN BE FOUND IN HIGH SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES, CORPORATIONS, PROFESSIONAL SPORTS, THE MILITARY, PERFORMING ARTS AND CLINICS, HOSPITALS AND PHYSICIAN OFFICES.
CELEBRATE NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINING MONTH WITH THE CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINERS AND ATHLETIC TRAINING STUDENTS ON CAMPUS BY GETTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE PROFESSION:

• ATHLETIC TRAINERS ARE HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS WHO COLLABORATE WITH PHYSICIANS TO OPTIMIZE ACTIVITY AND PARTICIPATION OF PATIENTS.

• ATHLETIC TRAINING ENCOMPASSES THE PREVENTION, DIAGNOSIS, AND INTERVENTION OF EMERGENCY, ACITE AND CHRONIC MEDICAL CONDITIONS.

• ATHLETIC TRAINING IS NOT THE SAME AS PERSONAL TRAINING. CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINERS WORK WITH MORE THAN JUST ATHLETES. THEY CAN BE FOUND JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE THAT PEOPLE ARE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE.

REMEMBER, IF YOU ARE SIDELINED WITH AN INJURY, MAKE SURE YOU CONSULT A CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER, WHO SPECIALIZES IN THE PREVENTION, ASSESSMENT, TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION OF INJURIES AND ILLNESSES. AVOID INJURY AND STAY ACTIVE WITH AN ATHLETIC TRAINER.

Students – Take advantage of Peer Mentoring Services by The Office of Multicultural Development! March 8 - March 22
12:00 am - 1:00 am
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The Office of Multicultural Development provides a variety of academic programs and services to help support the University’s goals of recruiting and retaining multicultural students, and promoting a culture of student success.
Peer Mentoring Services strives to provide students with a welcoming and supportive environment that models and encourages excellence. Mentoring is a one-on-one relationship between an upperclassman University of Akron student (mentor) and a new first-year student (mentee). This relationship develops over a one-year period of time with clearly defined roles and expectations. The upper-class student (mentor) is knowledgeable, experienced, and willing to share his/her time, energy, and talents with their student mentee. We are proud to accept any willing student in search of becoming a mentor. Through regular meetings and activities, mentors will help their mentees discover the potential within themselves to succeed in their personal, academic, and professional endeavors.
We encourage you to sign-up to become a Peer Mentor today! The Office of Multicultural Development strives to help students develop a sense of belonging to our campus community and an increased level of motivation and pride. This will enhance the overall college experience and, ultimately, prepare students for success in the classroom and beyond.

For more information, two informational Sessions will be held on:
Friday, February 1st from 3:00 - 4:00 pm
Thursday, March 7th from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
Both meetings will be held in Simmons Hall Room 101

Please consider becoming a part of this great program! Students can sign-up to apply for a Peer Mentoring position online at https://www.uakron.edu/webforms/peer-mentor-app.dot. For questions, contact Autumn Frampton at ext. 8660 or autumn@uakron.edu.

“A World on Autopilot?: Atheism, Determinism, Ethics, and Evolution”

By August Berkshire

In the world premiere of this controversial and thought-provoking talk, August Berkshire will discuss the ramifications of a universe without gods and free will, where evolution reigns supreme. Is life worth living? How do we derive meaning and purpose in our lives? What does this say about ethics, cooperation, altruism, praise, blame, responsibility, crime, punishment, rehabilitation, and revenge? Should we be optimistic or pessimistic about the future?

August Berkshire is president of Minnesota Atheists and a past vice president of Atheist Alliance International. He has been an atheist activist since 1984 and is the author of numerous pamphlets.

“Atheism, Determinism, Ethics, and Evolution”

August Berkshire will discuss the ramifications of a universe without gods and free will, where evolution reigns supreme. Is life worth living? How do we derive meaning and purpose in our lives? What does this say about ethics, cooperation, altruism, praise, blame, responsibility, crime, punishment, rehabilitation, and revenge? Should we be optimistic or pessimistic about the future?

August Berkshire is the president of Minnesota Atheists, a past vice president of Atheist Alliance International, and on the speakers bureau for the national Secular Student Alliance. He has been an atheist activist since 1984 and is the author of numerous pamphlets. He is the owner of the ATHEIST license plate for Minnesota and is proud to be listed in the reference book “Who’s Who in Hell.”
