Do you want to give back to the community but don’t have the time to volunteer? Well the University of Akron Jumpstart Student Organization has the perfect solution for you!

For those who don’t know, Jumpstart-Akron is part of the larger national organization Jumpstart that engages young people in service to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. Jumpstart pairs a caring adult and a preschool child within the classroom setting in a personal one-to-one relationship to work together on reading, language, and social skills for one year. Through this relationship, Jumpstart prepares a child for success in school, encourages caring adults to be teachers and leaders in education, and strengthens a family’s involvement in its child’s educational development. Headquartered in Boston, Jumpstart currently engages 1,600 college students in service to 6,000 children and operates in 18 states, 44 communities, and 160 preschools. Jumpstart-Akron was established in the fall of 2003 and has expanded to 40 plus corps members working in local Head Start programs.

American Eagle Inc. (AE), one of Jumpstart’s national sponsors, has recently decided to launch “Good Friends. Good Times. Great Gifts.” This Great Gifts campaign aims to promote volunteerism in the most effective way possible— through action rather than words. Consumers who can't volunteer time can contribute to Jumpstart by donating a dollar or more at any American Eagle store or online at http://www.ae.com . American Eagle will give each donor a cool Great Gifts bracelet as a thank you. One hundred percent of each donation goes to Jumpstart, and wearing the bracelet will show off support for Jumpstart’s cause. Your help is needed as we spark the lives of preschoolers all across the country!!

“‘Outfoxed’ examines how media empires, led by Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, have been running a ‘race to the bottom’ in television news. This film provides an in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public's right to know. The film explores Murdoch's burgeoning kingdom and the impact on society when a broad swath of media is controlled by one person.” For more information, visit http://www.outfoxed.org.
