Explore 'Sacred Spaces' at exhibit opening

Do you like architecture? Do you like to learn new things? Then join us at the Center for the History of Psychology as we unveil a new exhibit titled “Sacred Spaces” featuring five architectural models of places of worship. The Saturday, June 15, opening will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a 20-minute introduction by architect Suzanne Morgan and the unveiling of the exhibit at 2 p.m. A reception with light refreshments will follow. This event is free and open to the public and will run through Aug. 24. The center is located at 73 College St., on the corner of College and Mill streets.

After 9/11, Morgan decided to find a way to bring people together to learn about other faith traditions in a safe and peaceful way. This collection was a part of what came out of that effort. Morgan will provide a brief overview to contextualize each congregation with their structures and traditions, and discuss the decision to use architecture as a vehicle for interreligious understanding.

Morgan studied architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and holds a certificate in liturgical design from Chicago's Catholic Theological Union. She has served on the boards of more than a dozen civic organizations and foundations across the country, and has held positions with several architectural firms, including Loebl, Schlossman, Bennett and Dart and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago.

The Center for the History of Psychology is home to the new Institute for Human Science and Culture, a new multidisciplinary institute devoted to understanding historical and contemporary issues in the human sciences. IHSC will incorporate educational programs and courses, special collections, exhibits and research that explore the meaning of the human experience from multiple perspectives — psychological, anthropological, artistic and historical.
