It will be a weekend to celebrate good food and music when the 66th annual Italian-American Festival is hosted July 12-14 at Lock 3, 200 S. Main St. For the full schedule of activities, visit the Italian-American Festival online.

Meanwhile, the Lock 3 stage will take audiences back to the best of the Sixties on Friday, July 12, with the music of Aftermath, at 7 p.m., followed by 1964 The Tribute at 8:30 p.m.

The members of Aftermath recreate the sights and sounds of the ’60s as they perform the best know songs of such groups as the Rolling Stones, Doors, Turtles, Monkees and Grassroots. 1964 The Tribute has been performing the best of the early Beatles for three decades. The band recreates the sound and feel of those early “Fab Four” concerts with period instruments, clothing and hairstyles as they perform classics from the pre-Sgt. Pepper era of the band.

On July 13, the dance band LaFlavour takes the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Michael Sonata performing songs of Frank Sinatra at 9 p.m.

Formed in Massillon in 1967, LaFlavour performs a wide variety of popular music around Northeast Ohio. Actor and singer Michael Sonata, who hails from Canton, has been performing his tribute to “Old Blue Eyes” for nearly a decade. His repertoire includes “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Summer Wind,” “Witchcraft” and “That’s Life.”

Admission to the concerts is free.

The festival is part of the entertainment and activities planned this summer in Downtown Akron, much of it free.

Through the uArts Initiative — UA's special, exclusive arrangement with the city of Akron — students, faculty and staff and can receive free admission to some of the city-sponsored events that require paid admission. To learn more about these “Friends and Family” concerts and other events, visit uaevents.com or Summer in the City on the UA website.
