spacer image
Students are encouraged to check their Fall 2013 schedules via My Akron.

• Log into My Akron with your UANet ID and password
• Click on the “Students” tab and then select “Student Center” under the “Access My section.”
• Information regarding course meeting times, days and room location is given in real-time; in other words, all information is up to date as it is retrieved.

You can also view your schedule in UA's free mobile app, called UA Mobile. Download now. Learn more.

The Office of the University Registrar sends an e-mail to the instructor of record and all enrolled students’ UANet e-mail address when there is a classroom change made in the course(s) they are enrolled. It is recommended that instructors and students check their UANet e-mail often for any important messages from the University as this will be the official means of notification used by the Office of the University Registrar.

Students may access a computer from many locations on campus including:

• Simmons Hall – Lobby
• Student Union – Laptop Check Out and Kiosks
• Residence Halls – Computer Labs
• Bierce Library – Computer Labs and Laptop Check Out
• The Polsky Building – Room 192
• Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences building – Computer Lab Room 103B and Kiosks in Atrium
• College of Business Administration Building – Room 102

Send questions about your course schedule to the Student Services Center at ssc@uakron.edu.

New year and new spaces for some student services
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
You will notice as fall semester begins that the offices of some of our student services have new names, new locations, or both. Many are now part of the Office of Student Success, headed by Jim Tressel, who has a new title — Vice President for Student Success. Learn more at the Office of Vice President for Student Success.

The changes have been made to ensure the best possible Akron Experience for our students, right from their first days on campus. The goal with the moves is to make the student services provided by these offices as visible and accessible as possible to the students who need them throughout their years at UA.

Here is the list of the offices with new addresses. All telephone extensions and department ZIP+4 codes will remain the same. Please note: All Student Life offices are now located on the first floor of the Student Union.

  • The Career Center has moved to Student Union 211 from Simmons HalI 301.

  • The Center for Academic Advising and Student Success has moved to Simmons HalI 301 from Schrank Hall South 9.

  • The Zip Card Office in the Student Union has moved to Honors Complex 142 (the former location of the Custom Apparel Store).

  • Student Employment has moved from Simmons HalI 301 to Simmons HalI 202B and 202C in the Office of Student Financial Aid.

  • Student Judicial Affairs has moved to Simmons HalI 302 from Student Union 216.

  • Student Life (Administrative Offices) has moved to Student Union 131 from Student Union 211.

  • The Roo Express Office has moved to Quaker Square R101 from Quaker Square 160.

  • The Custom Apparel Store is now located in Quaker Square 160.

Office of Inclusion & Equity now located in Buchtel Hall Aug. 16
Time: n/a
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Across the University, the colleges and academic support units are enhancing efforts to increase student success. In support of these efforts, and to further integrate inclusive excellence into student success strategies, the Office of Inclusion & Equity recently relocated to Buchtel Hall 209.

The move reiterates the importance of integrating our core value of inclusive excellence into academic planning as the Office of Academic Affairs continues its focus on improving retention and graduation rates. The Office of Inclusion & Equity plays a key role in bringing diversity-related strategies to the colleges.

While several initiatives will be rolled out as the school year begins, two that deserve immediate focus are the restructuring of the Diversity Council to assist our colleges in developing diversity-related strategies and embedding accountability and representation in each college. And secondly, with an increased connection to the Office of Academic Affairs, additional support and outreach will be provided across campus to ensure diversity in hiring practices of faculty and staff.

Two prominent speakers have been invited to campus to discuss issues related to diversity.

Jonathan R. Alger (right, top), president of James Madison University, will be the keynote speaker on Monday, Sept. 9, at our 2013 President's Annual Forum on Inclusive Excellence. Those who inflict microaggressions are often unaware that they have done anything to harm another person. Details.

spacer image
We are looking for inventive and entrepreneurial students and faculty who might qualify for $2,500 in grant funding to develop a great idea into a marketable and successful product or service.

With funding from the National Science Foundation’s I-Corps Sites Program we are putting together teams of faculty, students and mentors to help commercialize ideas coming from any type of research (faculty from all colleges are encouraged to apply).

Teams are taught the principles of marketing and product development (talking with potential customers, identifying channels to market, developing revenue-generating and partnership strategies). In addition to participating in a seven week extracurricular program on commercialization, those selected for the program will receive a $2,500 grant to pay for travel, prototyping and other expenses.

Those chosen for UA’s I-Corps Sites Program may become eligible for more lucrative commercialization-focused grants like NSF I-Corps Teams ($50,000), Ohio Third FrontierTechnology Validation Fund ($50,000), and SBIR/STTR ($150,000). Individuals and teams can apply.

For more information feel free to contact the I-Corps Sites Program via email at: nsficorpssites@uakron.edu. Applications are open through September 23, 2013.
