The 11th annual Akron Marathon is this Saturday — Sept. 28 — so if you are coming to campus in the morning, be prepared for traffic delays and street closures. The race is expected to draw 15,000 runners, in addition to the volunteers and spectators who will line parts of the route and wait at the finish line in Canal Park, 300 S. Main St.

The race begins at 7 a.m. on South Broadway, near the National Inventors Hall of Fame School. The course will again wind through a portion of campus. Lot 6 (on Union Street), Lot 18 by the Student Union and Lot 66 on South High Street, across from the West Campus Parking Deck, will be closed for the marathon runners and tents. General marathon parking will be available in Lot 28 at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, Lot 39 on Carroll Street; Lot 49, the West Campus Parking Deck; and Lot 36, the South Campus Parking Deck.

The University of Akron’s Department of Student Life is calling for photos of UA veterans—students, faculty, alumni, or family and friends—to be used in a display on the second floor lounge of the Student Union from Nov. 4 through Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11.

Please bring your photo to room 130 in the Student Union, where it will be scanned and returned to you. You will be asked to provide the veteran’s branch of military, dates of service, tour(s) of duty, and other information. You also will have the opportunity to share a story.

The deadline for scanning photos is Monday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m. On Monday, Nov. 4, you can attach your scanned photo—with the veteran’s name, phone number and email written on the back—to the display.
