It's smart to schedule your spring classes early! Oct. 18
Time: n/a
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Watch the inbox of your student e-mail account for a message from the Registrar telling you when you can schedule your spring classes, or you can check in My Akron.

Schedule as soon as you can to get the best classes at the best times — before they fill up. You'll also stay on schedule to graduate on time, and you'll have a better chance at avoiding long gaps in your day.

Plus, you can win prizes — print your spring schedule and bring it to the Student Union by Starbucks or Summit College between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily between Monday, Nov. 4, and Friday, Nov. 8, and you'll receive a free "GettinClassy" T-shirt (as supplies last).

There's no reason to wait. Sign up today and pay in January.

You don't need to meet with your adviser before scheduling, though your adviser is available to assist. (Those with an advising hold should see an adviser now, when wait times are less.)

And remember, you can always change your schedule, so there's no benefit to waiting to see your fall grades and to waiting for your spring work schedule.

Schedule your classes today in My Akron.

spacer image
The Department of Modern Languages offers a summer study abroad program in Spain for all Spanish students. It is a 6-credit, one-month Spanish immersion program in Valladolid, Spain. You have the choice of studying during either the month of June or the month of July. (There is also an option to study for both June and July and receive 12-credit hours.) You will live with a Spanish family and study at the University of Valladolid. In the evenings and on weekends, you will take trips to cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Ávila, Salamanca, Segovia, Santander, Leon and Burgos.

Participants in the program must have completed successfully two (2) semesters of college Spanish (Spanish 102 at UA). If you have completed Spanish 102, these credits may fulfill the Intermediate Spanish 201 and 202 General Education requirements.

If you have completed Spanish 202, you will receive 6 credit-hours of 300-level Spanish electives that will go toward a Spanish Major or Minor. To minor in Spanish, you only need to take 4 courses after Intermediate 202. After studying for a month in Spain, you will only need to complete two more courses to have a minor in Spanish.

Click on this link to see a video made from last summer: https://vimeo.com/74942724 and click on this link to see the blog from last summer: http://dissta2013.weebly.com

There will be an information meeting about the program on Monday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m., and also on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 5 p.m. in Olin Hall 375.

Relay for Life!

At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much.

The funds you raise truly make a difference in the fight against cancer – just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year!

Relay For Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.

If you want to learn more about how you can get involved, or if you want to learn more about how to sign up for a team or how to register your own team, contact the Relay for Life Event Chair, Ashley Freshwater, at uarelay@gmail.com.

The Department of Student Life is sponsoring "HYPNOTIC INTOXICATION" for Alcohol Awareness Week!!!

HYPNOTIC INTOXICATION is a two-part program. The first part is a lecture on the powers that alcohol and addictive drugs play on our lives and explores how if gone unnoticed, it can ruin our lives.

The second part is the highlight of the presentation. In this portion we invite some volunteers onstage. We hypnotize them and invite them to a KEITH KARKUT PARTY, in which any alcohol they ever wanted is there in unlimited amounts, for the alcohol is served through the powers of the mind, by serving your students water, which they think is the most potent alcohol they have ever had. We allow their friends to see what really happens when they involve themselves in a severe alcohol situation.

YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS IT!
