LOCK YOUR SPOT IN CLASSES THIS SPRING!!
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Now is the time to lock in your spot in classes for the Spring 2014 semester! It’s easier than ever to register for classes. Students can register online by clicking on the My Akron button located at the top of The University of Akron home page at http://www.uakron.edu and logging in with your UANet ID and password.

Go to My Akron now.

Don’t have a computer at home?
For your convenience, computer labs and kiosks are located throughout campus. Both Bierce Library and the Student Union offer laptops for checkout!

Need help registering for classes?
Contact the Student Services Center by e-mail at ssc@uakron.edu, or visit them in person in the lobby of Simmons Hall.

If you schedule fall classes before leaving for the holidays, you can:

  1. improve your chance of getting the best classes with the best professors at the best times;
  2. set your work schedule for fall;
  3. stay in sequence in your major and graduate on time;
  4. find out about holds or pre-reqs before the rest of the campus schedules its classes;
  5. avoid long gaps between classes;
  6. apply your financial aid earlier, so you know your out-of-pocket expenses and you have more time to find on- or off-campus employment;
  7. be placed high on any wait lists;
  8. schedule time with your adviser before the run up to the spring semester, and avoid wait times; and
  9. avoid late fees.

Veterans Celebration offers a week of activities Nov. 2
3:30 pm - 7:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The annual observance of Veterans Day begins early this year — with a full week of activities for the campus and community that will honor servicemembers, past and present.

The schedule of events includes talks by Terry Gould, UA alumnus, U.S. Navy veteran and author of "How Can You Mend This Purple Heart?," a mobile military history museum on Coleman Common, and a photo tribute to UA veterans in the Student Union. A variety of films and exhibits are planned as well.

First on the schedule is Military Appreciation Day at the Zips vs. Kent State Flashes football game on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 3:30 p.m. at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field. Tickets will be free to all veterans and active duty members — the rate will be $17 for family and friends.

From Nov. 4 to Nov. 11, the photo tribute to UA veterans — students, faculty, staff, alumni, or family and friends — will be on display in the second floor lounge of the Student Union, near Starbucks.

The forces will land on Coleman Common Nov. 5-6. Members of Marlboro Volunteers Inc., a Northeast Ohio-based, nonprofit educational organization, will arrive, in uniform, with a variety of military vehicles and displays. In addition to its 70-foot long military museum, visitors will see equipment representing different eras, including a WWII mess tent, light tank and half truck; a M.A.S.H. tent, and a M114 vehicle from the Vietnam era.

The week's activities will culminate in UA's annual Veterans Day observance, which will begin with a 24-hour vigil at noon on Sunday, Nov. 10, as U.S. Army ROTC cadets guard a symbolic eternal flame at the Buchtel Hall flagpole. Read more and see the schedule.

Graduate Business Programs Information Session Nov. 8

spacer image
Our Flexible MBA allows students to study on a full-time or part-time basis. Students with any bachelor's degree are eligible to apply for admission. Students with science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medical backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

We offer an interdisciplinary concentration that allows you to take graduate credits outside of business to fulfill MBA requirements. Students admitted to any UA graduate program can shorten the MBA by applying coursework from the current program.

Coordinated programs with Engineering, Math, Statistics and the BS/MD program allow students to reduce Gateway requirements in the MBA by taking specific undergraduate elective courses in business and take graduate and undergraduate work concurrently.

The CBA also offers programs in Accountancy, Taxation, Information Systems, Technological Innovation and joint programs with the School of Law.

Bloomberg Business week ranked our Flexible MBA #1 in northeast Ohio and #34 in the nation. U.S. News and World Report also rated our program as the top public Flexible MBA in northern Ohio.

Register to attend the session online at mba.uakron.edu and meet with our advising staff to learn more about admission requirements and how the Flexible MBA is a good fit for your future!

UA Theatre Program presents As You Like It Oct. 30 - Nov. 9
7:30 pm - 9:05 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Adapted and directed by UA Theatre Professor James Slowiak, performances are October 31-November 2 at 7:30pm, November 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and November 3 and 9 at 2 p.m. Slowiak is the recipient of the 2011 Outstanding Artist in Theatre Award from the Akron Area Alliance.

As You Like It is a witty and provocative comedy. Rosalind, one of Shakespeare’s most sublime creations, is raised at the court of Duke Frederick with her cousin Celia. Rosalind falls in love with a young man named Orlando, but before she can even think twice about it, she is banished by the Duke. Celia goes with Rosalind, now disguised as a boy named Ganymede, and Touchstone, the court's fool, to the Forest of Arden. What follows is an elaborate scheme devised by the cross-dressing Rosalind to find out the verity of Orlando's supposed passion for her and to further capture his heart. As one critic points out: “As You Like It, with its cross-dressed heroine, gender games and exploration of sexual ambivalence, its Forest of Arden and melancholy Jacques, speaks directly to the twenty-first century.”

Slowiak is directing two nine-person casts, one all male and one all female. The two casts will display an exceptional physical and vocal virtuosity in performing a variety of roles, switching hysterically between genders, ages, and class. The female cast will perform on October 31, November 2,and 8 at 7:30 and November 9 at 2pm. The male cast will perform on November 1, 7, and 9 at 7:30pm and November 3 at 2pm.

See both casts and receive a $2 discount for the second show. Or come in costume to any performance the first weekend and receive a $2 discount.
Tickets for As You Like It are $12 general admission; $10 for seniors and UA faculty, staff and alumni; and $6 for students. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. For more information, call (330) 972-7895 or visit http://www.uakron.edu/dtaa.
