Do you know what time it is? It's time to make the important decision of which fraternity you will join at The University of Akron! I know what you're thinking, "My parents think fraternities are just like the movie 'Animal House'."

Did you know that 425 out of the Fortune 500 companies are headed by Greek alumni? Fraternity life provides academic achievements, develops leadership skills, creates career-networking opportunities and enriches your college experience through fund-raising events, charity work, social experiences and large associations with many people. If you ask any member of any fraternity, they will tell you that it's the best decision they have ever made.

Now, it's your turn to make the decision. Come meet fraternity representatives throughout the next few weeks in the Student Union, where they will answer your questions about Greek life. All of this leads up to the Fraternity Forum on Feb. 8, where you will have a chance to meet members from every fraternity on campus.

How have the tuition increases affected you?
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
In a recent poll conducted by the Buchtellite, the student body overwhelmingly expressed concern about the continual increases in tuition. The state universities in Ohio have experienced a 32.9 percent increase throughout the past four years, FY 99-00 to FY 03-04. In addition, the state has actually cut funding for higher education. Students in higher education must take a strong stance against tuition increases.

The Associated Student Government has joined with other student governments in Ohio in a statewide effort to lobby for higher education, but we need assistance from the student body. Currently, we are searching for personal stories from students who have been affected by the tuition increases. These stories will be compiled with the stories from students at other Ohio state universities and presented to legislators and government officials.

If you are interested in helping us in our effort to fight tuition increases, please contact Diana Kingsbury or Amanda Aller at 330-972- 5801.
