spacer image
Come party with the best. While having fun and partying nightly, Phi Delt still managed to achieve the highest GPA at The University of Akron.

Phi Delta Theta has opened recruitment for the spring semester. We are seeking quality men who are looking to be the best, become leaders, and have fun. Phi Delt participates in intramurals, community service and philanthropic events, and various extracurricular activities such as Associated Student Government, University Ambassadors and Orientation Leaders.

Phi Delta Theta is the oldest fraternity on campus. Our chapter has definitely made its mark on UA: from the brick walkway through campus to the Martin Center, Stitzlein Alumni Center, and many more parts of the campus. Phi Delt alumni from Akron contains many important people, including Jim Lenehan, president of the Fortune 500 company Johnson & Johnson; Donald E. Demkee, chair of The University’s Board of Trustees, Parke R. Kolbe, past president of UA and the man for whom Kolbe Hall is named, to name a few. With a scholarship program unmatched by any fraternity in the United States, Akron’s chapter of Phi Delta Theta remains the leader of scholastic initiative.

This week at Phi Delt:

Sunday, February 6-Super Bowl
Monday, February 7-Movie Night
Tuesday, February 8-Poker and Halo 2
Wednesday, February 9-Zips B-ball against Kent
Thursday, February 10-We Love the 90s Trivia

Learn about Greek life at Fraternity Forum Feb. 8
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Do you know what time it is? It's time to make the important decision on which fraternity you will join at the University of Akron! I know what you're thinking, "My parents think fraternities are just like the movie 'Animal House'."

Did you know that 425 out of the Fortune 500 companies are headed by Greek alumni? Fraternity life provides academic achievements, develops leadership skills, creates career networking opportunities and enriches your college experience through fund-raising events, charity work, social experiences and large associations with many people. If you ask any member of any fraternity, they will tell you that it's the best decision they have ever made.

Now, it's your turn to make the decision. Meet representatives from the UA fraternities at the Fraternity Forum from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 in Ballroom A of the Student Union. The representatives will be happy to answer your questions about the Greek life.

Keep an eye on our Web site at www.thetachiworld.com for more fun events to be posted! If you have questions, please send us an e-mail.

Here are the top 10 reasons why you should join Theta Chi Fraternity:

10. Scholarship Programming - Theta Chi's scholarship program consists of incentives, scholarship banquets, minimum standards, and study groups.

9. No Hazing - Theta Chi believes new members should be welcomed into the fraternity properly. Nothing will be asked of you unbecoming of a true gentleman.

8. Alumni Involvement - Theta Chi is for life. Our alumni are very much involved in the weekly activities of the chapter.

7. Standards - In order to be considered for membership in Theta Chi Fraternity, a man must have at least a 2.25 GPA, and be willing to abide by the Virtues and Values of this chapter. Incoming freshman will be evaluated on similar criteria from high school.

6. Image - The men of Theta Chi are known on campus as true gentlemen, dedicated campus leaders, and outstanding scholars. Theta Chi's national image is the same. We pride ourselves on our tough risk management procedures and zero tolerance policies.

5. New Member Education - Theta Chi Fraternity's New Member program consists of eight weeks of education. During this time, you will learn about our history, academic resources, manners and etiquette, leadership development, chapter operations, and yourself.

4. Founding Principles - The traditions that characterize Theta Chi Fraternity include an emphasis upon brotherhood, service to others, loyalty to alma mater, and a striving to live up to our ideals as exemplified by our motto, Extend a Helping Hand.

3. Immediate Leadership - It is one thing to join a fraternity. It is another to be a part of something greater. In Theta Chi, you will have the unique opportunity to assume leadership positions in the year that you join.

2. Financial Considerations - The Beta Lambda chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity here at the University of Akron has some of the lowest semester dues of all national fraternities.

1. Making a Difference - You and you alone can make the difference. Join Theta Chi and mold it to what you would like it to be
