Today, The University of Akron is introducing eRefund — a free online service for direct deposit of any refund of financial aid disbursements or awards that exceed your student expenses.

With this streamlined process, you can have refunds directly deposited into a checking or savings account at your bank. Or, you can have refund dollars automatically deposited to a prepaid Visa debit card. PNC Bank will process your payments.

How the refund system works now:

  • If your account is funded in excess of your financial obligations to the University, or if you drop a class or change your meal plan, you currently receive a refund by mail or by direct deposit to your checking or savings account.
  • Refunds are automatic; however, notifications currently are not. You have to monitor your account to confirm whether a refund has been deposited, or watch your mail for a check.

How eRefund will work:

  • You will have the option to receive no more checks in the mail.
  • All refunds will be automatically deposited into the checking or savings account that you designate, or, if you prefer, a prepaid Visa card can be issued directly to you. This prepaid card can be used for refunds throughout your entire time at UA.
  • If you already have direct deposit information on file with the current system, you’re set. Your current information will transfer automatically to the new website.
  • pigIf you do not currently have direct deposit information of file with the University, you can enroll now or in the future via My Akron:
    • Log into My Akron
    • Select the eRefund icon (pictured) in the left menu
    • Follow the steps to register
    • An e-mail will confirm that your UA eRefund account is activated
  • You can make adjustments to your profile selections at any time through My Akron.
  • You will receive e-mail alerts when a refund is scheduled for deposit.
  • If you prefer to continue to receive checks, you need not do anything and the checks will continue to be sent to the address on file with the University.

What do I need to do?

Whether you have direct deposit or need to enroll, we encourage you to log into the UA eRefund site. While you are there, you can review your current financial institution information and, if needed, update your student profile.

Why is UA doing this?

To give you faster, easier access to your refunds by allowing PNC Bank to generate refunds more efficiently than the current system. Right now, it takes about three days for your refund to become available to you after it is generated by the system, if you elect to receive your refund by check.  The new eRefund system gives you access to your refund the day after it is computed

If you have any questions, call PNC at 1-800-745-7577 or visit pnc.com/uakron to see a list of FAQs.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.

Questions about specific announcements should be made to the contact person/department/organization listed in the announcement.Your event will automatically be forwarded to the University's online calendar. The Zipmail Coordinator can be reached at x2837.
