Take a survey about The Buchtelite,

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image

Earlier this semester The Buchtelite announced a hiatus of the independent student newspaper. In part, staffing in key roles was low. This presented an opportunity to redesign The Buchtelite to better meet student needs through innovative digital media production techniques and standards.

Now is your chance to tell us what you think - and have a chance to win big!

On Monday, March 10, UA students will get an e-mail inviting them to take a survey about The Buchtelite. If you don't get the e-mail and want to participate for a chance to win, send an e-mail to buchtelite-survey@uakron.edu.

Students who complete and submit the survey will be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win one of 10 $50 gift cards.

We appreciate your time and support as we work towards reinventing our future!

Theft is often tied to lapses in attention
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Theft on college campuses is often a crime of opportunity — somebody takes advantage of an unattended laptop, an unlocked door or a GPS visible in the window of a parked car.

The number of thefts on campus would decline if students were to take an extra moment to secure their belongings:

  1. In the library, if you are going to step away from your table, take your laptop with you.
  2. Lock the door to your dorm room, even if you are running down the hall for a minute.
  3. In your car, tuck items of value out of sight. Yes, this includes the rack that holds your GPS. A thief may see the rack and assume that the GPS is in the car.

The University goes after those caught stealing. Students who are found responsible for theft are often suspended. Nonstudents charged with theft are sent through the criminal justice system.

UA will continue to do its part to reduce the occurrence of thefts. You can help our cause by taking that extra step to help secure your valuables.

Message provided by The University of Akron Police Department.

Under Our Skin

spacer image
The Committee for Research on Women and Gender is pleased to present "Under Our Skin," a panel of performances by 3 undergraduate Antioch College students. In “Thick & Thin,” a woman comic lets gendered jokes get under her skin. In “Bathe,” a woman rubs herself with charcoal and then washes herself with milk. In “Key . . .” a woman navigates internal obstacles with chalk and chains. Together these works explore gender roles and women’s experience, also raising questions of race, class, education, sexuality and popular culture. Participating in a long tradition of feminist performance art, Under Our Skin will allow multiple bodies to arrive at the “Multiple Faces of Activism.”

The performance is free and open to all University of Akron students, faculty, and CROW conference attendees.
