Got publishing? University of Akron Press seeks students

If you are interested in the world of publishing, this is the job for you. We are looking for students with Federal Work Study awards for 2005-06. Contact us for an application. We are seeking motivated students who have the ability to work independently.

We will be recruiting for positions to last from this summer through the end of the fall semester. We offer flexible schedules. The Press is a small organization, so our student assistants get hands-on experience in marketing, distribution, and production.

These positions are ideal for gaining much-needed resume material for liberal arts majors.

Founded in 1989, The University of Akron Press has over 70 publications to its credit. While striving to be the University’s ambassador for scholarship and creative writing at the national and international level, it also provides an important learning experience for students interested in the world of publishing. In addition to sponsoring an annual prize in poetry, the Press publishes five series.

JP's childhood resembled that of most any other child in America, except that JP was born blind in his right eye, and then at the tender age of 10, glaucoma in his left eye took his sight completely. He turned to his love of music and began to teach himself to play guitar. To date he has opened for Bruce Hornsby, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Charlie Daniels, CCR, Ricky Skaggs, and Edwin McCain. He has also become a regular at the famous Bluebird Café in Nashville. His voice and writing style have been compared to acts as diverse as Chris Isaak and Barenaked Ladies. His good-natured sense of humor is charming and his success is inspiring to anyone who has ever faced an obstacle to fulfilling their deepest dreams.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.

Questions about specific announcements should be made to the contact person/department/organization listed in the announcement.Your event will automatically be forwarded to the University's online calendar. The Zipmail Coordinator can be reached at x2837.
