Students encouraged to check summer 2005 course schedules on ZipLine

Students are encouraged to check their summer 2005 schedules by clicking on the ZipLine button located in the lower-right corner of The University of Akron’s home page at http://www.uakron.edu/ and logging in with their UANet ID and password. Click on the “Students” tab, select “Academics” from the list and then select “View My Class Schedule.” Information regarding course meeting times, days and room location is given in real-time; i.e., all information is up to date as it is retrieved.

Students may access a computer from many locations on campus including:

Student Union – Laptop Check-out and Kiosks
Residence Halls – Computer Labs

The Office of the University Registrar is now e-mailing classroom change information to enrolled students using their UANet e-mail addresses. It is recommended that students check their UANet e-mail often for any important messages from the University.

For students who registered for Fall 2005 classes prior to July 8, your printed invoice was mailed earlier this week and you should receive it soon. Remember, for registrations that were placed before July 9, payment is due Aug. 8.

Exchange e-mail and ZipSpace systems will be down briefly

On Sunday, July 24, at 8 a.m., the Exchange e-mail and ZipSpace systems will be offline for hardware upgrades. During this time, you will be unable to access ZipSpace (personal web pages and online storage).

The Exchange e-mail system, which is used by faculty and staff, will also be unavailable. Any e-mail messages sent during this time will be delayed until the system is back online. Senders may receive "delivery status notification" messages indicating a problem with delivery; this is normal, and the message will be received once the upgrade has been completed.

IBM estimates that the upgrade will be completed between noon and 3 p.m. On completion, e-mail delivery will be slower than normal until the mail servers have time to process backlogged messages.

Personal finance workshop for women to be held July 22

Women & Money – a free, daylong personal finance workshop hosted by the state treasurer's office – will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, in the Student Union. Supported by the Office of the Provost and the College of Business Administration, the conference will include morning and afternoon breakout sessions on such topics as budgeting, credit and debt management, estate planning, kids and money, home ownership, identity theft, investments, insurance and retirement planning.

Chemical dependency professionals attending the workshop will receive 4.5 hours of continuing education approved by the Chemical Dependency Professionals Board. The Ohio Board of Nurses also accepts this program for 4.5 hours of continuing education for registered nurses and licensed professional nurses.

Join us as we wrap up our colloquium series on rare book preservation. Come and take a close look at some of the unique and amazing books in the Archives of the History of American Psychology in the context of bookmaking history. Participate in interesting discussion of various issues related to book preservation including safe handling practices, the evaluation of condition and restoration options. Presentations based on the bookmaking processes that were discussed during the past two sessions will also be included.

Join us on Friday, July 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Psychology Archives Reading Room as local book conservator Ann Kearney wraps up this successful colloquium series. The Department of Athletics will serve as host to the inaugural Gridiron 101 Clinic on Monday, Aug. 8 in the Tommy Evans Lounge of Rhodes Arena.

The three-hour event, designed to give a behind-the-scenes look at collegiate football, kicks off at 5 p.m. and features a number of seminars on the Akron program. Second-year head football coach J.D. Brookhart, his coaching staff and many support staff from around the department will breakdown the day-to-day tasks involved with running a program.

The cost for UA employees, students and season-ticket holders is $20. All other attendees will be charged $25. The fee includes a playbook, T-shirt and pizza. Participants will also receive on-field instruction and a chance to don a Zips uniform.

The Office of International Programs (OIP) is looking for enthusiastic students who enjoy working with people from a variety of countries with different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds to become orientation leaders for International Student Orientation.

Orientation leaders will be expected to work all day on Thursday, August 18 and Friday, August 19, as well as a program the afternoon of Tuesday, August 23rd. Leaders will be compensated $50; an OIP T-shirt with international flags on the front and back; an OIP Orientation Leader Certificate; breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the 18th; breakfast and lunch on the 19th, and a ticket to the "Around the World Party" during International Education Week.
