Parking permits available for the Fall term

Parking permits for Fall 2005 can be added to your student invoice during Fall class registration. You will not be able to add permits to your account after midnight, Sunday, Aug. 7. You may also purchase Fall parking permits in the Parking Services office at this time; the office is located in the North Campus Parking Deck (Lot 26), on Buchtel Avenue.

Please keep in mind that permit enforcement begins the first day of the Fall semester, Monday, Aug. 29.

Pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in fall 2005? Apply for graduation now!

If you plan to graduate at the end of the Fall 2005 term with a Master’s or Doctoral degree, you will need to apply for graduation by Wednesday, Aug. 3. Graduation Application Forms may be obtained on the University Registrar’s website at http://www.uakron.edu/registrar/GradMastDoct.php. or in the Graduate School located in the Polsky Building room 469.

Graduation applications may be faxed to 330-972-8632, delivered in person to the Office of the University Registrar located in Simmons Hall room 120, or mailed to the Office of the University Registrar, Attn: Graduation Services, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-6208.

To avoid the $100 late graduation application fee, don’t miss the deadline. Late applicants will also need to obtain a memo of late permission from the Graduate School.

Questions regarding the graduation application process may be directed to the Graduation Services office at commencement@uakron.edu. or 330-972-8300 (choose option #6).

Visitor's parking lot on southwest side of campus to close

Visitor's Lot B on the southwest side of campus will be closed temporarily for a few months beginning Aug. 1. During this period, the lot will be used by construction crews who are building the gas turbine testing facility on Lot 70, which is now permanently closed. On this page, the closed lots (Lot B and Lot 70) are in orange. If you have visitors who routinely use Lot B, they should be advised to:
  • use the meters in Lot 34 across the street on Wolf Ledges by the Computer Center;
  • use Visitor Lot A in the Robertson Deck on Buchtel Avenue; or
  • use the meters in Lot 27 on Buchtel Avenue, across from Guzzetta Hall.
Visitor's Lot B will reopen at the project's completion, expected to occur before Jan. 1. The Parking Services Web site has more information.

The staff of the SRWC is pleased to announce the addition of new equipment. Based on your requests, Group Exercise has new water bells and cuffs for our water classes! The Ocasek Natatorium and SRWC have new Concept II rowers. Did you know that competitive rowers have the best aerobic capacity of all athletes? So if you want a real challenge, have a seat and row! Last but not least, a top-of-the-line combative arts station is located on the SRWC track level. This unit has a banana heavy bag, 100 lb. heavy bag, speed bag and a double end bag.

Help UA host nation's premiere pre-season soccer tourney

The University of Akron's Department of Athletics is looking for volunteers to help out at the Westfield Cup Soccer Tournament. Westfield Cup, the premiere pre-season soccer tournament in the United States, is to be held Thursday, August 18, through Sunday, August 21, at Lee Jackson Field. The men's field consists of Akron, SMU, UConn and Maryland. The women's field consists of Akron, Florida, Old Dominion and Jacksonville State.

Volunteers are needed for Soccerfest (an inflatable game area), hospitality and ushering. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt, cap and admission to matches when not working.
