University community to raise funds for hurricane victims

One measure of a society is its willingness to care for its most needy. As appeals continue to be made for financial donations to help provide basic human necessities for those displaced by Katrina, The University of Akron has established a relief fund for victims of the hurricane. UA is asking students, faculty and staff to consider making a donation to the fund. Every single dollar collected will be donated to the American Red Cross.

There are three ways you can contribute:
  1. Send a check to:
    UA Hurricane Relief Fund
    P.O. Box 2260
    Akron OH 44309-2260
    The check should be payable to the "UA Hurricane Relief Fund"

  2. Drop some loose change, currency or checks in a specially marked drop box that will be located near the information desk in the Student Union starting on Tuesday.

  3. Make a donation at any cashier window at Simmons Hall. In the event you need a receipt for tax purposes, donations should be made at a cashier window at Simmons Hall, and you should request a receipt at the time of making the donation.
Several campus groups are planning special events to raise money for the University's relief fund. Announcements will be forthcoming regarding these efforts.

Housing for displaced students of Hurricane Katrina

Commuter Central and Residence Life & Housing are offering to assist students who are displaced by the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. There will be a bulletin board in the Commuter Lounge, located on the first floor of the Student Union across from the Game Room. How to Get Your Information In Zipmail

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.

Questions about specific announcements should be made to the contact person/department/organization listed in the announcement.Your event will automatically be forwarded to the University's online calendar. The Zipmail Coordinator can be reached at x2837.
