Patricia Zinsmeister Parker to show paintings at Folk Hall Oct. 10 - Oct. 28
Time: n/a
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Patricia Zinsmeister Parker has been at the forefront of the art world in northeast Ohio for the past three decades. Her innovative approach to painting, largely classified as abstract figuration, will be on exhibition at the Emily Davis Gallery of the Myers School of Art in Folk Hall from October 10 to 28.

This colorful, one-person exhibition titled "Pieces of My Mind: Recent Paintings by Patricia Zinsmeister Parker" encompasses mixed media painting, assemblage, color prints and works on paper mounted in Plexiglas. For the opening on Oct. 10, Parker will give a free public gallery talk about her work beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a reception.

Parker creates highly evocative and poetic images by combining simple, quirky forms with gestural brushwork. Over the last fifteen years her method of "construction" in her paintings has evolved from manipulating paint on the surface of the canvas to experimentation by adding elements in relief. The addition of these architectural elements results in dynamic compositions that invade the space between the viewer and the traditional picture plane.

Parker was an adjunct professor of painting for many years at the Myers School of Art and has been an active arts supporter and participant in the greater Ohio art scene.

Gallery Hours
Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.

RHPB presents Comedian Costaki Economopoulos Oct. 11
9:09 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Costaki’s humor has been described as smart, pointed, hip, sharp, insightful, socially relevant and gut-laugh funny. His take on such heavy subjects as the war on terrorism, religion and gun control will leave you thinking and laughing. His light swagger, playful squint and wry smile tell you that perhaps there’s more to his multi-layered joke than you first recognized. Costaki began to make some noise on the comedy scene by reaching the finals of the Seattle Comedy Competition, where he was discovered and invited to the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival. He recently taped Comedy Spotlight, and was such a hit on The Bob and Tom Show that they brought him back in the studio again that same week. After one hard laugh, Tom Griswold belted, “Costaki Economopoulos is Greek for funny!” Don’t miss the “Biggest Name in Comedy” this Tuesday night in Robertson Café.
