Last day for class withdrawals November 18

We hope your semester is going well! As the semester comes to a close, the Office of the University Registrar reminds all instructors and students that the last day to withdraw from any fall 2005 class is Friday, November 18, at 5 p.m. Students wishing to withdraw from class(es) should obtain their instructor's and advisor’s signatures on a Registration/Schedule Adjustment Form (available at http://www.uakron.edu/registrar/Forms.php) and bring the form to the Registration counter in the lobby of Simmons Hall. After this deadline, requests for withdrawals cannot be processed.

Questions regarding class withdrawals may be directed to the Office of the University Registrar by e-mail at Registrar@uakron.edu or by contacting Registration at 330-972-8300 (option 4 for Registration).

NY Photographer Thomas Roma to lecture at Folk Hall Nov. 15

Thomas Roma, director of photography and associate professor at Columbia University's School for the Arts, will deliver the Bidwell Visiting Artist lecture at The University of Akron's Myers School of Art (Folk Hall auditorium) on Tuesday, November 15, at 6 p.m. Roma's lecture will focus on his work, which frequently narrates scenes from his native Brooklyn’s churches, subways and streets. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Thomas Roma is a two-time Guggenheim Fellow and has exhibited his photographs in solo shows at the Museum of Modern Art and the International Center of Photography. His work appears in numerous collections, including The Art Institute of Chicago, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He also is a founding contributing photographer to DoubleTake Magazine. Roma’s monographs include Found in Brooklyn, Higher Ground, Come Sunday, Sunset Park and Enduring Justice.

Intramural poker championship series #7 Nov. 17

Only two more qualifying tournaments are left this semester. This is the seventh game in the series, and it will be held at the Student Union Room 335. No registration is needed for the qualifying tournaments; seats will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Each tournament will seat a maximum of 64 people, and there are no restrictions on how many tournaments a participant may enter. The final table from each tournament will earn a seat at the final tournament for a shot at the grand prize. Each tournament winner will receive an Intramural Champion shirt in addition to a seat in the final tournament on December 4. Only one spot in the final tournament can be reserved per person. If a contestant earns a bid to the final tournament more than once, the next eligible contestant will be awarded that spot. Each participant must abide by all of the Intramural Sports’ policies and game rules to be eligible. Participants must present their Zip Cards at the tournament.

Specially priced tickets are available to University of Akron students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff for four campus performances of Gian Carlo Menotti's charming holiday classic “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” Presented by the UA School of Music’s Kulas Concert Series and UA Opera Theatre, the performances are November 17, 18 and 19 at 8 p.m. and November 20 at 3 p.m. in Guzzetta Recital Hall.

First broadcast by NBC on Christmas Eve 1951, “Amahl” is a delightful introduction to opera for audiences of all ages. The three evening performances will include additional scenes from famous operas.
