Registration Deadline for Make a Difference Day has been extended! Oct. 24

All students, faculty, staff, family and friends are encouraged to participate in UA Make a Difference Day service projects on October 29! You can sign up individually, with friends, with an organization or a class – just fill out the registration forms found in the Student Union or the Simmons Hall Info Desk. The registration deadline has been extended to Monday, October 24, 2005!

There will be two shifts available for you to choose from: a morning shift with check-in starting at 8 a.m. (ending at noon), or an afternoon shift with check-in starting at 11:30 a.m. (ending at 4 p.m.). Check-in will be at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. The best part is that every volunteer will get FREE LUNCH! Transportation will also be provided, so don’t worry about getting to your project!

You can choose one of the following projects in the University Park Neighborhood to get involved with (all will be available for both morning and afternoon shifts but they are first come, first serve so register today!):

  • Working with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for and with a deserving University Park neighborhood family;
  • Helping with one of five projects identified and coordinated by Rebuilding Together of Summit County to make sure that the homes of five University Park neighborhood families are “warm, safe, and dry”; and,
  • Assisting the University Park Development Corp. to maintain and improve local community parks and gardens and helping with a general clean up of the University Park neighborhoods.
Choose to spend a few hours helping to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and studies in the University Park area. If you would like additional information, please contact us at 330-972-7002 or lead@uakron.edu.

Volunteer check-in will take place on Saturday, October 29, at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.

Questions about specific announcements should be made to the contact person/department/organization listed in the announcement.Your event will automatically be forwarded to the University's online calendar. The Zipmail Coordinator can be reached at x2837.
