The University of Akron Equestrian team will host a horse show tomorrow and Sunday at Stoney Ridge Stables, 2010 Reimer Road in Wadsworth. The show will begin at 9 a.m. both days.

"Each day is a separate show," says adviser Melinda White, an accountant in the UA controller’s office. The host team provides the horses and draw for the steeds they’ll use in competition, according to White. There are two competition classes, equitation on the flat and equitation over jumps. All riders compete in the first; intermediate or advanced compete in the second.

The 10-member Akron team, which rides English style, is based at Stoney Ridge. The coach is Laura Hardy; president is Kathleen Friedman.

Deidre McCalla boldly admits what every rocker knows: Life begins with an acoustic guitar. Her brand of urban, acoustic pop/folk is delivered with an honest, open heart—a celebration of the power and diversity of the human spirit that is both captivating and inspiring. Deidre has shared bills and/or opened concerts for such notables as Suzanne Vega, Tracy Chapman, and the Flirtations. As the Capital Times says, “Take an acoustic guitar, add a vibrant voice and let them both loose on themes from peace to poignant love. Then you’ll have Deidre McCalla.”

Helen Molesworth, Chief Curator of Exhibitions at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, will visit the Myers School of Art on Wednesday, March 15, and will lecture at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Folk Hall. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Molesworth's most recent exhibition, "Part Object Part Sculpture," charted a geneology of transatlantic sculpture produced in the wake of Marcel Duchamp’s erotic objects and his hand-made readymades of the 1960s.

From 2000-03 she was the Curator of Contemporary Art at The Baltimore Museum of Art, where she organized "Work Ethic," which traced the problem of artistic labor in post-1960s art, and BodySpace, which explored the legacy of Minimalism for contemporary artists. She is the author of numerous articles, and her writing has appeared in publications such as Art Journal, Documents and October. Her research areas are concentrated largely within and around the problems of feminism, the reception of Marcel Duchamp and the socio-historical frameworks of contemporary art.

Ms. Molesworth is a guest lecturer of Asst. Professor of Art Kevin Concannon's special topic class, "Mass Production: Artists' Multiples from the 1960’s Through the Present.”

Learn about the exciting sport of water polo and join the UA Water Polo Club today!

This sport club is open to all students and no prior water polo experience is needed. An athletic, team sport and/or swimming background is helpful, but we're a fun club looking to add new student members and always ready to teach the game to those willing to have some fun and give it a try!!

We practice every Monday and Wednesday night at the Ocasek Natatorium from 8:30 to 10:50 p.m., so please join us.

Also, our club is hosting an all-weekend water polo tournament on the weekend of March 18th and 19th at the ONAT. Everyone is welcome to come and cheer for Akron while it competes with some of the regional best teams.

For more info and games schedule, please contact Club President Adam Crabtree awc2@uakron.edu or akronwaterpolo@yahoo.com. Feel free to check out our website.
