E-mail and UANet ID Improvements March 28 - April 11

spacer image
Recent and planned changes to the email and UAnet ID system will provide you with greater control of your account.

In January, Information Technology Services debuted an improved version of the UANet ID application. Available at ,https://gozips.uakron.edu/zid/app this application enables students and employees to change settings for their UANet IDs. In addition to the features that the old version had, such as password changes and mail forwarding, the new version let’s you:
• See Your E-mail Quota.
• See Your ZipSpace Quota.
• Change how the e-mail system handles unwanted e-mail (spam).
• Set password hints for your UANet ID. This will enable you to reset your own password if you forget it.

Another enhancement scheduled to be available April 5 is a new version of UANet Webmail. This new version will have several new features:
• Auto Responder/Vacation messages for students will be available
• If you have filtering rules set up, they process messages as they are delivered, instead of when you log in.
• ITS has created rules for every user that can be activated to process messages marked as Spam.

For an overview of the changes, visit http://www.uakron.edu/its/learning/training/docs/WebMailUpgrade.pdf

Training materials are available at http://www.uakron.edu/its/learning/training/StudentMail.php.

For questions about your e-mail, contact the Help Desk at 330-972-6888.

Artist Fabian Marcaccio to lecture at Intersections Exhibition opening, April 6 April 3 - April 27
6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Bringing the work of seven contemporary artists together, the exhibition, “Intersections,” opens at the Myers School of Art’s Emily Davis Gallery on April 3, 2006, and continues through April 27 in Folk Hall (150 E. Exchange St.). Artists Fabian Marcaccio, Richmond Burton, Lydia Dona, Julia Fish, Joe Fyfe, James Hyde, and Steve Roden will each have several works displayed in the show. In discussing the exhibition, curator Matthew Kolodziej, assistant professor of Art at UA, explains that “An intersection is a place where encounters happen and choices are made. In the hands of these seven accomplished artists - time, space, and materials are crafted to orient and mislead.”

A number of special events will be held in conjunction with the exhibition, beginning with an interview of Fabian Marcaccio by Jill Snyder, Director of MOCA Cleveland, on Thursday, April 6, at 6 p.m. in the Folk Hall auditorium. Marcaccio recently installed the 250-foot “paintant”, which is a mixture of paint, digital photography, and silicon, at Simmons Hall. An opening reception follows the lecture, and features musicians from the jazz program at the University. All lectures and the reception are free and open to the public (seating is limited in the auditorium).

Two concurrent exhibitions will take place in Folk Hall during “Intersections”: A student painting show in the atrium galleries showcases works by students from The University of Akron, Kent State University, and the Cleveland Institute of Art; and from April 17 – 28 painter Brian Sharp displays new works in the Projects Gallery. Finally, artist Julia Fish, architect Christopher Diehl, and Matthew Kolodziej will conduct a lecture/conversation in the auditorium of Folk Hall on Wednesday, April 26, at 6 p.m. A reception will follow.

It’s not every day that a first generation Cuban American (born and raised in Miami, FL.,) finesses a glass slide along the strings of her acoustic guitar with her foot stomping in time to the swampiest groove this side of the Delta, but that’s exactly how Nini Camps takes the stage to play the lead-off track from her second CD, "So Long." Nini is at once fiercely passionate and startlingly vulnerable as she sings her well crafted melodies. Her music as been featured in films and television, most notably the WB hit show "Felicity" and MTV’s "Real World."
