UA's Student Health Services department is pleased to announce that free, anonymous on-campus HIV Testing will be available on Monday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Testing will be done by appointment only and is available to all students at UA. Tests can be anonymous or confidential. You can return in one week for your results.

This is a fast, easy and free opportunity to get tested for HIV. It never hurts to get tested, especially if you are sexually active and not using protection consistently or if you are sharing needles. The OraSure test is a no-blood, no-needle test that only takes a few minutes. A trained professional gives the person getting tested an OraSure pad that is placed between cheek and gum and rubbed back and forth until it is moist. The test is more than 99 percent accurate. The test results are back in one week.

To make your anonymous or confidential appointment, or if you have questions about the testing, please call Student Health Services at 330-972-7808. Student Health Services will just need your birthdate and the time you would like to be tested. E-mail scheduling will not be accepted. Call 330-972-7808 today.

Student Health Services, a non-profit organization, is part of the University's Student Affairs division. The department offers medical and clinical expertise, physicals and immunizations as well as health education to students.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Join us for Akron's first-annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes! Stop by to show your support and stay to make history. Men from our University and community will walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes through The University of Akron campus to protest rape, sexual assault and gender violence. Dr. Matthew T. Lee, associate professor of Sociology, is scheduled to speak at the pre-march rally. Members of TKE fraternity will participate in the march, and local band Sacred Fiction will play at the post-march reception. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties.

The march is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration starting at 10 a.m. in the Student Union. Opening ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m., and a post-walk reception will begin at 12:30 p.m. Men, women and children are invited to participate, and walk-on registrants are welcome. Men are encouraged (but not required) to walk in women’s shoes, and participants are being asked to obtain a minimum of $20 in sponsorship. High heels and other women’s shoes in all sizes will be available to those who wish to borrow a pair for the march.
