As we close out the spring 2006 semester, please keep in mind that the beginning of the summer 2006 semester is quickly approaching. The tuition and fees due date for summer was May 4th, but if you haven’t paid yet, you still have time to save your summer enrollment and avoid enrollment cancellation, which is scheduled for May 14th. If you have any questions about your summer tuition, please visit Zipline, at Akron's homepage (where you can also conveniently make your online payment), or call the Office of Student Financials at (330) 972-5100.

The summer term begins on Monday, May 15th. If you haven’t already registered, it is not too late! Classes are still available! Please keep in mind that your due date is based on the date of your enrollment, and that only summer enrollment prior to April 8th is due on May 4th. For more information on summer tuition rates and due dates, please visit the Student Financials website at here

The UA Student Disciplinary and Law Enforcement Policy Review Commission will hold a public forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in the auditorium of the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S. High St., Akron. Students are invited to participate.

Rev. Dr. Ronald J. Fowler, chair of the commission, said the forum would enable the Commission to listen to the public and learn from its perceptions of the University's law-enforcement practices and Student Code of Conduct.

The Commission is seeking comments in other ways as well. It has set up a Web site, through which comments may be sent directly to the commission, and a forum was held today for student leaders.

spacer image
spacer image
The Buchtelite is looking to fill several staff writer positions.

Note: This is not an internship. This is an actual job that pays you while you get real-world experience and attend school.

Job description: Writing stories about campus-related events, trends and news. We are looking for different types of writers. Opinion writers have a chance to sound off about campus and provide their perspectives about the world around them. Sports writers report on Zips athletics, interviewing the campus’ top athletes and coaches. News writers take assignments that impact students most, with topics ranging from student government to exciting developments on campus. Arts & Life writers are able to express their creative writing skills, often reporting on exciting trends or previewing events in the campus area.

Job requirements:
• You need to be a full-time student. (12 credit hours or more)
• You need to have a skill in writing, spelling and grammar. AP Style knowledge is preferred.
• Interviewing skills are preferred.

Job benefits
• Actual working experience in a deadline situation
• A chance to be creative
• A chance to have your work on display for the entire campus. We print 10,000 issues every Tuesday and Thursday. Very few jobs can guarantee that your work will be distributed across an entire campus.
• We pay per story.
• It is a chance to become a campus leader.
• The opportunity to enroll in the one-credit Buchtelite class.
• In the fall, we will take some staff members to St. Louis, Mo, at the Buchtelite's expense. It will be a fun three-day trip in which you attend a few, hour-long conferences on whatever you find interesting.
• Opportunities to move into an editor role.

To apply for a job interview, e-mail the section editor who corresponds to the desired section. Please do so before June 1.
