Few people recognize the work of American author Thomas Boyd, yet his works can be placed alongside those of more famous “lost generation” authors such as Hemingway and Fitzgerald. In “Thomas Boyd: Lost Author of the Lost Generation,” — published by The University of Akron Press — biographer Brian Bruce tries to right this wrong by rescuing Boyd from the realm of insignificance.

Boyd’s books can be grouped into three categories: autobiographical books, Ohio books and Marxist propaganda. His most acclaimed work is his World War I novel “Through the Wheat,” which is based on his own war experiences as a Marine Corps combat infantryman. The book’s realistic description of war and battle has been compared to “The Red Badge of Courage.”

The book is part of the UA Press Series on Ohio History and Culture. It is the first full biography of Boyd and will be of particular interest to scholars of literature of the 1920s and early 1930s, and to those interested in rediscovered authors.

Don't forget — Current students, faculty, staff and alumni receive a 20 percent discount!
