Join us for our fourth year in Akron...apply now!!!

Jumpstart is an AmeriCorps program that recruits and trains undergraduate college students from ALL majors to mentor three- to five-year-old children in the Akron community who need you. You'll support young children's school readiness and develop their literacy through reading stories and singing songs and through other activities and games. You can earn a federal work-study award and an AmeriCorps education award in the process.

Jumpstart Corps members (college students) work 10 to 12 hours per week in local early childhood and Head Start centers paired one-to-one with a partner child on a team. Members also assist in a classroom of children during the week. Gain valuable, hands-on skills and experience and MAKE A DIFFERENCE in CHILDREN'S LIVES!

Jumpstart is a full-year commitment (both fall and spring semesters)! You must be available either Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m. or Wednesdays and Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m. or from 2 to 5 p.m. for both terms.

Jumpstart Corps members who have a degree in early childhood education or at least 12 units/credits in early childhood education or developmental course work are eligible for the exclusive Pearson Teacher Fellowship program to teach preschool full time for two years. The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.
