Sending snail mail to UA? Addressing rules have changed

Because of increasing use of automation at the U.S. Postal Service, mail inbound for University offices must be addressed in a certain way or it could be returned to the sender. Mail to UA residence halls is not affected.

If you are sending mail to a University office, it probably has a 44325 ZIP code. Mail that comes to that ZIP code should not have a street address other than 302 Buchtel Common, or it runs the risk of being rejected by the Postal Service and returned to the sender.

The University's Mail Services Department has developed a Web page that shows examples of how to address mail to University offices.

The staff at UA's Center for Child Development will sell spaghetti dinners from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 14 to raise funds to purchase a park bench in memory of Norma J. Hershberger, who had worked at the center for 21 years until her passing in early May. Children at the center have planted a garden in her memory, and a bench with a plaque will rest in the garden.

The dinner, available for take out only, will include spaghetti, salad, garlic breadstick and dessert. Cost is $5 per plate or $6 with meatballs. Orders must be placed by Monday, July 10 by sending an e-mail to ple@uakron.edu or jaf41@uakron.edu.

Payments by cash or check may be made at pickup, or checks may be sent via campus mail to Pam or Joe at the center (+1802). Checks should be payable to The University of Akron, with “Ms. Norma’s Memorial” on the memo line.

Also, a raffle for a fall hanging basket will be held Aug. 15. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Additional donations also are welcome.
