Everyone should exercise caution when receiving e-mails requesting confidential information that appear to come from banks, PayPal, eBay, credit unions, etc. This common practice of obtaining private information through deceptive and illicit means is known as “phishing” and is frequently used for the purpose of identity theft.

If you receive such an e-mail message – delete it. If you think it may be valid, contact the organization by phone and verify the legitimacy of the message.

To learn more about phishing scams, including what to look for, identifying scams, protecting yourself and what to do should you become a victim, register for the online course “Phishing: Don’t Phall Phor It!” To register, visit http://www.uakron.edu/seminars. This course is Web-based and upon registration, you will be notified of how to access the course within WebCT.

For questions regarding this course, contact Sue McKibben at 330-972-6391 or via e-mail at smf@uakron.edu.

Sending snail mail to UA? Follow these guidelines
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Due to the increasing use of automation at the U.S. Postal Service, mail inbound for University offices must be addressed in a certain way or it could be returned to the sender. Mail to UA residence halls is not affected.

If you are sending mail to a University office, it probably has a 44325 ZIP code. Mail that comes to that ZIP code should not have a street address other than 302 Buchtel Common, or it runs the risk of being rejected by the Postal Service and returned to the sender.

The University's Mail Services Department has developed Web page that shows examples of how to address mail to University offices.
