The University of Akron presents Cabaret by Kander and Ebb

The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration presents Cabaret Oct. 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. at Daum Theatre in Kolbe Hall, 328 Buchtel Common, on The University of Akron campus. This musical’s mature content may not be suitable for younger audiences.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $6 for seniors and UA faculty, staff and students. The ticket office opens one hour before each performance. For reservations call 330-972-7895. A group discount is available in advance for 10 or more patrons. Visit the Web site for more information.

One of America’s most well-loved musicals, Cabaret is based on I am a Camera, a play by John van Druten, which was inspired by Christopher Isherwood’s Goodbye to Berlin. Cabaret paints a vivid picture of the “divine decadence” and fearful hatred in the shape of rising fascism in Germany in the 1930s.

The UA production will be directed by faculty member Susan Speers, choreographed by MaryAnn Black and will feature scene designs by faculty member Adel Migid and costume designs by Justin Verdin. The role of the Master of Ceremonies will be played by Akron resident Ryan McMullen and the role of Sally Bowles will be played by UA student Amanda Christine Purlaky.

Singers Chinua Hawk and Chris Cauley Oct. 24
7:17 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Chinua is Nigerian for “God’s own blessing.” The soaring name Hawk comes from the Native American side of his heritage. With a voice that lives up to his name, Chinua this year won the Billboard Magazine Indie Artist World Series. When not performing on college campuses, he has taken the stage and recorded with such artists as Celine Dion and Wyclef Jean. Don’t miss the opportunity to see and hear this outstanding performer.

A scrappy little kid with a guitar…that’s how Chris Cauley describes himself. But anyone who thinks that’s all there is to this 22 year old talented singer/songwriter/musician hasn’t seen him perform. Chris can strip a ballad down to such a simple, uncluttered intimate sound that he takes the most raucous crowd down to complete silence. Simple, contemporary acoustic rock with a hint of blues and voice of soul…that’s the music and talent of Chris Cauley.
