Hudson Business and Professional Women's Club is offering scholarships to area women, 25 years old or older and in need of financial assistance, to continue their education. Scholarships may be used to enter, continue, or complete a bachelor's degree or associate degree. Scholarship awards are based on several criteria including awareness of personal goals, academic achievement, financial need, and the ability to communicate in writing.

Completed applications must be postmarked by February 15, 2007 to be considered. Awards will be presented in March.

Many of our students are struggling single parents, for whom we can make the holidays a little brighter with a gift of groceries. The University of Akron Chamber Choir performs works by Buxtehude and Brahms, as well as the Ohio premiere of a work by Samuel Gordon and the world premiere of a new work by composition major Spencer Kieft.

Rounding out the evening will be the dazzling A Cappella Nuance in its first performance after winning first prize at the International Choral Competition in Gorizia, Italy this past July.

The Chamber Choir is under the direction of Samuel Gordon. The concert is free and open to the public.

Have an inkling to change the face of fashion? Then come to the designer call for the Student Fashion Association Fashion Show. We are looking for designers for our annual fashion show! Designing is open to anyone from any major. If you've ever dreamed of seeing your creativity showcased, this is the way to do it. We will have two meetings, Monday Dec. 4 at 5pm in Shrank Hall South 212 and Tuesday Dec. 5 at 6:30 at Shrank Hall South 219. These will be short, informational meetings for anyone interested in designing for the show next spring. You must attend if you are interested in designing. In just two short years of pursuing his music career, Jared Campbell, a 23 year old singer-songwriter from Binghamton, NY, has developed himself as a fixture in the independent music scene. By connecting with his audience on a personal level, Jared has not only built a loyal fan base but has also has sold over 14,000 CDs – a major accomplishment for an independent artist. His thought provoking lyrics and melodic vocals cross many genres as well as appeal to many demographics. * The SCEC will take to them to The Salvation Army where they will be given to the child you bought the items for.

Corresponding with the study of “sacred space” by art history students at the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art at The University of Akron, guest artist and lecturer Johnny Coleman will present "Braiding the Personal, the Sacred, and Site" on at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the auditorium of Folk Hall. Coleman is an Associate Professor of Art Studio and African-American Studies at Oberlin College. In speaking of his installation work, Coleman says that “memory, observation, and imagination are the resources that I draw upon….I am working in a sculptural format that integrates the dramatic presentation of a stage set, with the oral tradition of storytelling”. This event is free and open to the public – light refreshments will follow.
