Masters and Doctoral Candidates Must Apply Now for Spring 2007 Graduation

Wednesday, Jan. 3 is the graduation application deadline for students planning to graduate at the end of the spring 2007 term with a Master’s or Doctoral degree.

Graduation Application forms may be obtained from:
• The University Registrar’s Web site;
• Graduate School located in Polsky Building 469.

Submit your graduation application to the Office of the University Registrar:
• by fax to 330-972-8632;
• in person to the Office of the University Registrar, Simmons Hall room 120;
• by mail to the Office of the University Registrar, Attn: Graduation Services, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-6208.

To avoid the $100 late graduation application fee, don’t miss the deadline. Late applicants will also need to obtain a memo of late permission from the Graduate School.

Questions regarding the graduation application process may be directed to the Graduation Services office at commencement@uakron.edu or 330-972-8300 (choose option #6).

Spring Jumpstart positions available

Do you have federal work-study to earn this spring semester or would you like to try a different federal work-study job? Jumpstart has a few openings for Corps members working 1-on-1 with a child starting spring semester, Jan 16. In addition, Jumpstart is looking for a family involvement coordinator, hours are more flexible.

Must have transportation and be available either Tuesday and Thursday 3 to 6 p.m. or Wednesday and Friday 3 to 6 p.m., along with the desire to make a difference in a child’s life by supporting their language and literacy development to get them more prepared for Kindergarten.

With completion of 300 hours for all Jumpstart positions, you are entitled to an AmeriCorps Education award voucher for $1000 - good for 7 years - to use towards future tuition or to make a federal loan payment.

The University of Akron's women's basketball team will take on Niagara University at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29. By purchasing a ticket to the game, gives free admission to the men's game which follows at 8 p.m. Fans have the opportunity to win free prizes in our raffle drawings, along with 2 free airline tickets.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.
