LEAP, Other Applications Do Not Work With Windows Vista
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University’s LEAP authentication, which is required to access the secure wireless network, does not work with the new Windows operating system Vista. If your personal computer is running Vista, you will not be able to access the UA wireless network.

Also, IT has identified other applications that have problems working with Vista, including WebCT, MathXL, McAfee and SMS. Other applications are being tested for compatibility by ITS, including, ZipLine, PeopleSoft, NOLIJ, Office Tracker, Counterpoint and Brio.

At present, this only affects users who are currently running Vista. Other versions of windows (XP, 2000, etc.) already support these applications and can run on the UA wireless network. Application providers and third party vendors are currently working solutions for these issues, but a release date for the solutions has not yet been announced.

Vista has not yet been deployed to computers using the University’s site license. This deployment is still several months away. By that time, third party solutions should be available.

If you have questions, contact the Support Desk at 330-972-6888 or Computer Solutions at 330-972-5308.

Morgan Spurlock, award-winning writer, director and producer, will speak at The University of Akron at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 12. His presentation, "Super Size Me," is the fifth event in the 2006-07 University of Akron Forum Series, and is sponsored by The University of Akron Honors College.

Single tickets are $8 each or $4 each with a University of Akron ID. For tickets, contact the E.J. Thomas Hall Ticket Office at 330-972-7570. Forum Series subscribers have been notified by mail regarding the confirmed date.

Spurlock received the Best Director award in Documentary Competition at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival for his first feature film, "Super Size Me," which is an examination of fast food and obesity in America. During the making of the film, he subjected himself to a 30-day, "McDonald's Only" diet to document the impact on his health.

The film also received an Academy Award nomination in February 2005 for Best Documentary Feature. That same year he published "Don't Eat This Book," an offshoot of his movie that serves both as a substitute for and in addition to the documentary.

Spurlock currently hosts, narrates and serves as executive producer for his second season of the F/X reality show "30 Days."
