The College of Arts and Sciences Building will be without heat on Wednesday, and perhaps on Thursday and Friday as well. Classes scheduled in the building for Wednesday have been moved. A schedule of relocated classes for Wednesday is at http://www.uakron.edu/info/docs/CAS_schedule_01-24-06.pdf .
Many of these rescheduled classes will be held on the second floor of Central-Hower High School, which is on Buchtel Avenue opposite the Arts and Sciences Building. A map is available here. In addition, signs will be posted to help guide pedestrians to the entrance of Central-Hower.
Heat to the Arts and Sciences Building was cut off yesterday afternoon when the steam line that provides heat developed a leak. Excavation work has begun, but it is unknown how long it will take to make the repair.
Because we are trying to keep as much heat in the Arts and Sciences Building as possible, access continues to be restricted. However, staff members are available by phone or e-mail to assist you. Phone numbers for each of the building’s departments are below.

For Arts and Sciences students who want to add a class: While the building is closed, students in the College of Arts and Sciences who want to add a class will need to obtain only the instructor's signature. Once the instructor's signature has been obtained, the add slip should be taken to the Office of the Registrar in Simmons Hall for processing.
When the building reopens, adding a class from that point forward will require the usual approval of the instructor, an adviser and the dean's office.
We want to thank the Akron Public Schools for making Central-Hower available to us, and we want to acknowledge the many members of the campus community who are working hard to ensure continued service to students. Most of all, we want to thank you for your patience and cooperation.
