The University of Akron is participating in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) in order to get valuable information about our students. A random group of freshmen and seniors was selected to participate and you may be one of them. If so, there is still time to participate and win one of these great prizes.

  • Dell Latitude laptop
  • 1 of three iPod Nanos
  • 1 of three $100 Zip Card credits
  • 1 of three $50 Zip Card credits

If you are a freshman or senior and want to participate, send an e-mail today to IRNSSE@uakron.edu. We will need your UA e-mail address to determine if you were one of the randomly selected freshmen or seniors picked to participate.

A direct e-mail was sent from the NSSE organization to those selected on or about March 30. That e-mail reminder was also sent to your UA e-mail address.

We do hope you will participate so that UA can benefit from your input!

If you have already completed the survey – thank you very much! You also are entered in the drawing. Prizes will be awarded in May.

Jumpstart-Akron's recruitment of Corps members for Year 5 (07/08) begins now!

Jumpstart is a national early-literacy non-profit organization that recruits & trains undergraduate college students from ALL majors to mentor 3-5 year old "at-risk" preschoolers, who need your support, in the Akron community. Read stories, sing songs, and develop their oral language and literacy skills through an enriched curriculum that we provide, supporting their school readiness...

This is an enriching opportunity to earn your federal work-study award for fall 07-spring 08.

Jumpstart Corps Members (college students) work 10-12 hrs per week in local early childhood centers, paired one-to-one with a partner child that you work with on a team of your peers. You also assist in a classroom of children during the week. Gain valuable hands-on skills and experience while making a difference in children's lives.

Jumpstart is a full-year commitment (both fall and spring semesters). We are looking for students with availability on Monday and Wednesday, Wednesday and Friday, or Tuesday and Thursday between 1:30 to 5p.m or 2:30 to 6p.m.

To apply, complete and submit an online application at http://www.jstart.org/apply for Corps member! After submitting, you will be contacted for an interview/appointment. Recruitment will continue throughout the Summer!

Akron Traditions Welcome Fest Aug. 26
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
In an effort to welcome new students to The University of Akron campus community, the Office of New Student Orientation annually coordinates Celebrating Akron Traditions. The primary goal of Celebrating Akron Traditions is to provide a means to “connect” new students to The University of Akron’s spirit, tradition, and expectations for learning, as well as introduce them to campus services and student involvement opportunities. Following a convocation address by President Proenza and other distinguished guests, the students will participate in the Welcome Fest celebration. Welcome Fest provides new students the opportunity to visit table displays set up by various student organizations and campus services/partners to better acquaint themselves to the resources available to them as students at The University of Akron.

This year, Celebrating Akron Traditions will be held Sunday, August 26, 2007, 2 pm at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Welcome Fest will be immediately following the convocation in the E.J. Thomas lobby areas from approximately 3 pm – 5 pm.

As the leader of a student organization/campus service at The University of Akron, we invite you to sponsor a Welcome Fest 2007 table display. There is a $25 participation fee. Please contact cnm5@uakron.edu or 330-972-7675 to get a participation form, or stop in at the Office of New Student Orientation, Simmons Hall 209.

Participation in Welcome Fest is mutually beneficial to your office/organization as well as to the new students. Event participants are encouraged to individualize their booth display so that it effectively promotes their organization or service. Banners, photographs, literature, and of course, give aways are strongly recommended.

Any questions regarding Celebrating Akron Traditions or the Welcome Fest celebration may be directed towards the Office of New Student Orientation at x7675 or via E-mail. We look forward to your participation!
