In order to use financial aid for summer 2007, you must complete the 2007-08 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the Summer Aid Application. Summer Aid applications are available in the Simmons Hall lobby or online at www.uakron.edu/finaid.

The Summer Aid application deadline is June 1.

Reminder: Financial aid used in the summer will take away from fall 2007, spring 2008 semesters.

Tuesday, May 15 is the Graduation application deadline for students planning to graduate at the end of the fall 2007 term with an Associate, Baccalaureate or Law degree.

Graduation Application forms may be obtained from:
• The University Registrar’s website at http://www.uakron.edu/registrar/Graduation.php;
• In the lobby of Simmons Hall.

Submit your Graduation application to the Office of the University Registrar:
• By fax to 330-972-8632;
• In person to the Office of the University Registrar, Simmons Hall room 120;
• By mail to the Office of the University Registrar, Attn: Graduation Services, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-6208.

If you plan on graduating in a later term, you may still apply now!! Just mark the appropriate term and year you plan to graduate on the application form.

To avoid the $100 late graduation application fee, don’t miss the deadline. Late applicants will also need to obtain a memo of late permission from their dean.

Rec Center to close for regular maintenance May 12-20

From May 12-20, the Recreation Center and Ocasek Natatirum (ONAT) will be closed for annual maintenance. Because classes are not in session, this is a prime opportunity to get repairs and cleaning completed that can not be accomplished at other times. We apologize for the inconvenience this creates. The Recreation Center is scheduled to reopen on Monday, May 21 at 6 a.m.

Some areas of the Ocasek Natatorium will be available for use during this time. The ONAT Fitness area will be open Mon. 14 to Wed. May 16 and will be closed from Thurs. May 17 to May 20.

ONAT's racquetball courts will be open Mon. & Tues. May 14 and 15 only. They will be closed from May 16 until Wed. May 23.

The University is conducting a pilot of MS Live Hotmail and G-mail to determine their appropriateness as an alternative to our current student email system.

The University is looking for a group of student volunteers who are willing to test the email system and provide us with feedback about it.

There will be some relatively minimal amount of effort required in terms of getting things set up.

For 33 seniors in the Graphic Design program of the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art, the culmination of their studies will be showcased during the 2007 Graphic Design Senior BFA Portfolio Exhibition at the Emily Davis Gallery, April 27 – May 4. The show opens Friday, April 27, with a reception from 5:30 – 7 pm in the gallery atrium of Folk Hall, 150 E. Exchange St., Akron.

The student portfolios feature advanced projects in corporate identity, package design, web page design, publications and illustration, as well as work produced during students’ internships. Several pieces exhibited have already won awards in the ADDY, ONE Club, and National Packaging competitions.

During the reception, all of the graduating seniors in the exhibition will be available to discuss their work with potential employers such as design firms, advertising agencies, and corporations that use graphic designers.

This inaugural event will be played Wednesday, May 2 against Ohio State University at 5 p.m. Come out to join the Akron Zips and show your support by making a pledge for every strike out that the Zips and Buckeyes record during the game. The first 100 fans to make a pledge will receive a free “Strike out Cancer” t-shirt. A direct donation to the foundation is also available. The University of Akron Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Guy Victor Bordo, welcomes guest trumpeters Scott Johnston and Robert Sullivan at 8 p.m., Thursday, in Guzzetta Recital Hall. Works include Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no. 4, Daugherty's "The Red Cape Tango," Hanson's "Merry Mount Suite," and Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets.

Students come out to Lee Jackson Field as your University of Akron women’s softball team continues MAC play in doubleheader action against Eastern Michigan on Friday, May 4. First pitch will be thrown at 1p.m. with the second game starting at 3 p.m. The Zips will continue play over the weekend on Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 when they host Central Michigan. Saturday’s game will start at 2 p.m. with a Sunday contest set to begin at 1p.m. Complimentary admission to all games is provided.

This conference match-up with the bobcats from Ohio University will begin at 3 p.m., Friday, May 4 and continue throughout the weekend on Saturday and Sunday with game times starting at 1pm.

Center for Child Development will host a 10-week summer program for school age children 6 to 11
(Must have completed Kindergarten)

The summer program runs from June 11 – August 16
(Minimum of two weeks)
Cost is $155/$160 per week
Program includes swimming, field trips to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, bowling, and excitement everyday.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments.
