Guidelines for resident students who will be moving out
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Students will be moving out May 6-11. We encourage all students to plan ahead. We are anticipating a very smooth move-out if the following guidelines are followed:

North Quad residents (Bulger, Honors/Orr, Ritchie, Sisler & Spanton) are encouraged to use the North Quad Parking Deck (Lot 26). South and East Quad students are encouraged to use lots adjacent to their buildings.

For the safety of personal belongings, students are encouraged to not leave their vehicles unattended or rooms unlocked while loading.

Loading passes are available in the Office of Residence Life and Housing in Ritchie Hall.

There will be increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic in residential areas during this time -- so please drive safely.

Help us find a successor to WebCT

spacer image
spacer image
Since the start of the process on April 3, the faculty and student steering committees have met twice to contribute their opinions and requirements regarding a new Learning Management System to replace WebCT. To date, more than 290 people have shared their priorities via the online survey. Visit the LMS selection Web site for meeting notes and to share your comments online (use the communications tab).

The Integration/Administrative committee has also met and provided input from their perspective. A full request for proposal will be finalized this week and sent to vendors.

Mark your calendars and plan to participate in vendor presentations during June.

If you have any questions, contact Suzanne Testerman at smt@uakron.edu.

Join the pilot to help select an improved student e-mail system
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University is conducting a pilot of MS Live Hotmail and Gmail to determine their appropriateness as an alternative to our current student email system.

The University is looking for a group of student volunteers who are willing to test the email system and provide us with feedback about it.

There will be some relatively minimal amount of effort required in terms of getting things set up.

If you are interested in testing either MS Windows Live Mail or Gmail, go to https://gozips.uakron.edu/zid/app/email/pilot/index.cgi and log in with your UAnet ID and Password. At the bottom of the page, select either “Read details about Windows Live Hotmail” or “Read details about Google Mail”. You can sign up for the service you wish to test from this location.

If you have questions about the pilot, contact Keith Hunt at keith@uakron.edu.

Things get worse when he's forced into marriage by the mean, junk food-chugging queen, Rasputia. Just when Norbit's hanging by his last thread, his childhood sweetheart, Kate, moves back to town.

Do you like to read aloud? Do you like volunteering your time at hospitals? Do you like using your fun personality to make others smile and laugh? Are you looking for something to be involved in next fall?? If so, Healing Words is the perfect organization to get involved in.

Healing Words is an organization of college students that promotes the use of literature in the healing process of patients through reading aloud to them.

In hospitals, the concentration is rightly on the physical needs of patients--blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation--but as a Healing Words volunteer, you will have the opportunity to tend to the person behind the illness. As a reader, you will stir the imagination of someone who needs to hear a human voice in the midst of electronic monitors and media. The Healing Words Program brings together two people--the reader and the listener--for the benefit of both. Your participation in this program will allow you to be the bearer of good news to brighten the days of patients." (Valerie Gribben~UAB)

This organization is still in the beginning process. In order for it to continue to grow and become a success, Healing Words needs you.
