Reminder about tuition due dates for the summer terms

The Office of Student Accounts/Bursar understands the challenges that students face when it comes to paying for college. The department, located on the first floor of Simmons Hall, is happy to explain to you the available payment options, including the installment-payment plan. Stop by or call us at 330-972-5100. We are also accessible on the Web at http://www.uakron.edu/busfin/studentfin/index.php.

We want to make you aware of some important dates for the summer term.

Tuition and fee payment is due on May 17th for students who enrolled prior to April 21st. You can pay in 2 installments over the semester by signing up for our installment payment plan by May 18th. Information on the plan is available at: http://www.uakron.edu/busfin/studentfin/paymentoptions.php#ipp. If you have made schedule changes since your original enrollment date; it is possible that you have more than one due date. If your enrollment is between April 21st and May 19th your due date is June 12th. Please review your account on Zipline and know when your tuition and fees are due.

Information on financial aid is available at: http://www.uakron.edu/finaid, or you can call 330-972-7032 or stop by the Office of Student Financial Aid in Simmons Hall.

Some additional points:

  • Anticipated financial aid is considered as payment, and if it covers the balance due, the student will not incur any penalties.
  • Students can avoid a $50 late fee by paying their accounts by May 17. Students who miss the due date and have not signed up for the installment plan run the risk of having their enrollment canceled for the summer term. The cancellation enables the University to open up seats in classes that are full.
  • Students who enroll but later decide not to attend are strongly encouraged to drop their classes to ensure that fees are properly credited. Please note: Nonpayment does not guarantee the cancellation of your enrollment. (Learn how to drop classes at: http://www.uakron.edu/registrar/AddDrop.php. The University's refund policy is at: http://www.uakron.edu/busfin/studentfin/refundpolicy.php.)
  • Enrollment will be canceled on May 20th for undergraduate students if payment arrangements are not made by May 18th in person or online in full by May 19th.
  • Graduate students, law students, first-time international students and certain workshops are excluded from the above criteria. Please contact your college for more specific information.

Traffic on Route 8 southbound to be restricted tomorrow

On Saturday, May 19, the Highway Maintenance Division of the City of Akron will close the left and middle lanes of Route 8 southbound from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carroll Street and Buchtel Avenue overpasses near the University. Workers will be conducting routine bridge maintenance.

Once again, The University of Akron is providing an opportunity for free tutoring in foreign language to individuals age 7 - adult. The program will offer opportunities to learn to read and use the language.

Do you need a break from the heat or do you just want to kick back and relax because it is finally summer time?

The Game Room in the Student Union is just the place to do it because it is open this summer. So, feel free to come in with friends or family and enjoy the billiard parlor or bowling facility.

The prices have not changed; it is still $2.50 per person per game to bowl and only $4 per hour of pool (pro-rated).

If you have any questions, call the desk at 330-972-8462. So stop by and hang out; the game room staff looks forward to seeing you.

Intramural Softball League June 5

Registration is now open for the Intramural Softball League. Entry forms are due by 7 p.m., May 30, in the OASIS office at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Slots are limited. There is a $40 entry fee per team and is open to all students, faculty and staff. All games will be played at Buchtel Field. Registration forms can be downloaded from our Web site.

For Diversity Week in the fall, Zips Programming Network (ZPN) will be sponsoring a program that will take place near Starbucks in the Student Union. It is an informational session, designed to educate our campus about diverse belief systems while teaching the importance of respecting everyone's ideas. People of all backgrounds are encouraged to attend.

If you would like to be involved in the event by setting up a table, and providing information about your way of thinking, there is room for seven pairs of two; meaning a total of 14 people.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
