Introducing. . . “Zipmail” eNews for Students.

Welcome to the first edition of Zipmail, the weekly electronic newsletter for University of Akron students. Up-to-date information on topics such as *Deadlines for class registration, etc., *Parking and traffic updates, *Upcoming programs and events, *Club and organization announcements, *Athletic events, schedules, and *Entertainment, will be e-mailed every Friday morning to all University students and employees. Registered student organizations and University departments use Zipmail to post news and information you can use.

This new service, developed and coordinated by the Office of Student Development, is designed to significantly increase communication within our University community. Because Zipmail will be fast, efficient, and accurate, Zipmail will soon be THE way to communicate with students.

Communication via e-mail and websites is rapidly becoming the dominant method of communication on our campus. Because UANET email is the major communication tool, it is important that students regularly check their UANET e-mail mailbox. Many of our students use other e-mail accounts (Yahoo, AOL, etc.) more frequently than their UA net account. That’s okay, but take a few user-friendly moments to connect the other account to the UANET account. This link between the two accounts ensures up-to-date information from areas like Registration, Accounts Receivable, academic departments and all the great information to be shared through Zipmail.

For University of Akron students, below are the easy steps to follow to connect the University-issued e-mail account to any other regularly used outside account. Beginning this fall, for many University departments, the single source of communication with students will be e-mail. Connect the outside account to UANET now:

Students need to know their UANET ID and password to complete the connection. Students receive their ID and password during the new student orientation process. The UANET ID, for most students, is affixed to the back of the Zip Card. Those who have misplaced information regarding the UANET ID and password, can drop by Bierce Library, Room 69 or call the Help Desk at 330-972-6888.

1. Go to the University home page: www.uakron.edu

UPDATE — ENROLLMENT CANCELLATION AND WEB BILLING FOR FALL 2003
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The Office of Student Financials has made several significant improvements to The University of Akron's billing processes.

* Web Billing Update — Due to the large number of recent billing and tuition policy changes, the University will slowly transition students and their parents into the new Web billing policy by printing and mailing invoices for the remainder of the Fall 2003 term. However, we are still planning on moving forward with the Web billing system for the spring 2004 term, and we encourage students to view their invoice via the Internet so that they are familiar with the Web billing system, even though they will still receive paper invoices for the remainder of this term.

Effective fall 2003, the following changes will be made to the University's billing for tuition and fees:

* Enrollment Cancellation — Students will be dropped from their courses if their tuition and fees are not paid by the assigned due dates. Students also may be dropped from future enrollment if they still have a prior financial obligation to the University.

* Installment Payment Plan Down Payments — The University will still offer students the option of paying their tuition in three installments, but will now require a down payment, based on the amount of outstanding tuition and fees, minus any anticipated financial aid, plus the usual $26 application fee.

In addition, the University is no longer accepting payments via the automated phone system and is encouraging students to pay their tuition and fees online through the RIC.

If you have questions about any of the new policies, please contact the Office of Student Financials at ext. 5100 or by e-mail at cashier@uakron.edu .
