New students accepting their FWS awards for fall/spring need to call the FWS Office and schedule an appointment for orientation. Various employers will be available at that time for you to meet and interview with. The Maintenance and Technology area within the Department of Student Life (located in the Student Union) is in need of an assistant manager. Below is the position description:

The maintenance and technology crew is in charged with the upkeep and care of the Student Union. Students undertake various disciplines from simple tasks to advanced work. Virtually every aspect of maintenance and technology is covered including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry, computers, and audio visual assistance.

The assistant manager for building maintenance reports to the maintenance LEGO manager.

Responsibilities: Characteristic duties and responsibilities of the assistant manager for building maintenance:

• Lamp inventory and replacement
• Furniture repair
• Complete maintenance forms
• Preventative maintenance
• Execute Tasks designed by LEGO Manager and Supervisor
• Attend area meetings
• Participate in Staff Activities
• Role model appropriate behaviors as a Manager
• Manage Crew members
• Coordinate duties with the Assistant Director Custodial and Maintenance
• Assist the Lego Manager with maintenance performance reviews
• Maintain Game Room Machinery

Desired skills and qualifications of the maintenance assistant:

• Enrolled as a full-time student at UA
• Understanding of Student Union operations
• Maintenance experience
• Computer literate
• Problem solver
• Punctuality
• Enthusiasm

Greenleaf Family Center, in conjunction with University Park Alliance, will present this workshop focused on understanding credit, budgeting, and banking from 10 to noon, Thursday, July 19 at 560 Allyn Street, in Akron. Learn how to get and read a credit report, how to balance income and expenses, and how to manage a checking account--among other things. Free and open to the public.

The University of Akron Western Equestrian Team is seeking new riders for the 2007-08 season. We accept riders with all levels of experience and are expecting a great season next year. Riders are not required to own a horse or to provide their own equipment.

The Equestrian Team will sponsor a table at the Summit County Fair in Tallmadge from July 24-29. Students can come to the fair and participate at the table or come and gather information on joining the team.

We will also be hosting a Car Wash fund-raiser at Sam's Club in Fairlawn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 13.

Workshop will cover probability of gambling games Aug. 4 - Aug. 18

Learn the basics of applied probability in the context of gambling games in a one-credit workshop to be taught from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Saturdays during Summer Session II (Aug. 4, 11, 18) by Dr. Timothy Norfolk, a professor in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics.

Workshop participants will learn about simple probability, house percentages, basic strategies and bets or games to avoid. This is a credit/noncredit workshop that meets neither the University mathematics requirement, nor the 47-hour rule for the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences.
