I am delighted . . .
. . . to inform you that we will freeze tuition fees for undergraduate, graduate and law students for the 2007-08 academic year. This action is possible because Ohio's governor and the leadership in the General Assembly have increased the state's investment in public colleges and universities in the newly approved two-year budget. I congratulate them for recognizing the critical role that the state plays in keeping tuition rates affordable and making Ohio's universities accessible to all. I am gratified as well that state leaders increasingly are acknowledging the importance of higher education to the state's overall economic health.
On our campus, we will continue to make the investments necessary to further strengthen our excellent academic programs and enhance our expanding campus. Our investments in recent times have generated a high level of excitement across the region, raising the profile of the University and leading more students to choose Akron. Last year, we welcomed our largest freshman class in 15 years, and the numbers for this fall are likewise encouraging.
Thank you for choosing The University of Akron. May the good news we are sharing today set the tone for the coming academic year.
We look forward to seeing you on campus this fall.
With every good wish,
Luis M. Proenza
President, The University of Akron
